You have a Gen 1. I have been trying to get accurate measurements on the center portion with a micrometer so I can make a center stay to complete the set.

You can ommit that portion and it will still function with the standoff (silver piece) through the middle, it just doesn't lock down the same way.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

It is done! Smithy cut up the stay a bit, but after lining everything up and locktite on the screws, this thing feels incredibly rigid. I honestly purchased it just for the looks, but after holding it (especially now that I can extend my arm out farther on the AFG) I don't think this RFB will ever have the factory forend again. Thanks Rich!

It feels like a whole different rifle. I had to work the handguard on a little, but it is rock solid. Mine is a gen 1 that did get some upgrades in the past, like the gen 2 gas knob, but I had no problem mounting the handguard, so I must have a Gen 2 gas block as well. I did take it to get cerakoted the Magpul FDE so it would match the lower part of the rifle. It looks like both FDE and ODG are now color options, but they weren't when I got mine. Regardless, I am very happy with my purchase, the feel to the rifle is verv different since I can stretch the arm out there, and the I like the appearance of my rifle much more with the aluminum handguard.

now someone make a full length Pic rail, well at least from the end of the LI rail to a bit in front of the chamber.
If you look at the above pic..thats not a standard length top Pic rail as it does end in front of the mag well. These are still being made.

TIf you want a bottom rail you might need to cut it down/Modify it yourself. Aim sports sells 12 inch rails. That would be long enough for the sides.

I bought one just for this handguard with the intention to cut it down to 10 inches for the RFB like I did with my Rdb. However. I have not done that to the RFB.

I understand about the OE rail. I bought the longer rail but ended up taking it off and using the OE rail. I have a scope mounted on the rail and even with the longer rail I had problems mounting iron sights. Once/if/when I get some more ammo, I'll be off to the 200 yard range to zero, then to the 1000 yard range to see how I do.

So it's been a year or so (sorry for the bump, just stumbled on this new handguard).
How is everyone liking their hanguards after a few more rounds?

I would also like to know if the current iteration of this forend allows for the charging handle (I have the oversized handle) to be removed so the rifle can be field stripped and cleaned easily?

Youll still have to remove a little bit of material towards the back of the handguard for the charging handle to come out...Or if your carrier is a lil sloppy you can just pull straight up on the charging handle and it will come out.. (I also have the oversized handle).

I'll have to check mine for adequate clearance tomorrow.
Other than that, how have you been liking it?

Does it get less or more hot than the OE during range sessions?

How is takedown and servicing?

Just trying to get an idea on the pros and cons.

OMG I love it. I have a light as far forward as I get it . It doesn't really add any more weight than the quadrail+ the Polymer handguard
(Note:I do not use the added top mount thats in front of the gas block...)

So..I have mag dumped a 30 rounder during a range session..I don't wear gloves (didnt have the poly covers at that time)...Id probably have to dump alot more than 30 before I started noticing the heat on that rifle.
The OE handguard..I recall the pin just in front of the selector getting rather hot after a magdump..

My rifle is rather old..So take down is fairly easy, and since its a gen 1, I don't have part of a recoil spring pushing the piston in.
I can take everything out without removing the handguard on my rifle. I rarely need to do that.
Something I learned from BJK here is to put Mlok polymer panels on the rifle where I grip it for them really cold winters when I'm outside with the rifle.

Biggest con is you might need to modify just the right-side "wing" that holds in your charging handle. Outside of that. Its all positives..

I plan on adding some BCM mlok rail covers, plus the Magpul handstop kit on the bottom, which should help reduce any felt heat.

Did you have an issue mounting your angled foregrip?

I looked over the photos of the Lucky hanguard and my RFB, and it seems like the spacing shown below is the same on the OE and the Lucky. Wouldn't this space function the same as the OE when removing the bolt and charging handle from the carrier?
That way you aren't trying to pull up and out of the handle.
See photo below. The gap measures at maybe just over 1/2". The Lucky seems to have a similar gap, can someone confirm?

Nope.Im using the shorter rail sections..My plan was to add an alluminum pic rail to the bottom (already purchased) ..but never got around to it..

Yea photos can be deceiving.
There's just barely less room.
My charging handle measure 0.50 inches and that gap is 0.45 inches.

This was the problem reported when we first started getting these. I Have not heard about any updates to this..But its an easy fix..

My rifle is weird because it's not a gen 2.

Wow, that's so close to working flawlessly for removal.

At this point the pros outweigh the cons for this handguard. Just being able to use m-lok anything, and the ability to extend my grip out further are huge wins.
