I have a lightly used Ruger P345 I recently purchased at the gun show and I really like it but I want to take apart the slide because I noticed that the saftey strut that is visible right above the firing pin is either chipped,cracked or flawed and I would really like to replace it before it becomes a problem I can order that part online easily but my problem is I cant find any videos or info online on how to do the slide take down process there is only a couple videos on youtube on how to take down the frame but can anyone please make a video or explain to me the slide take down process???

ps I don't want to send it to ruger or a gunsmith im always more than willing to learn and fix my own guns THANKS FOR HELPING.

That sounds like the pin that is supposed to prevent firing if the magazine is removed. But if you dry fire without the magazine you risk cracking the pin. If cracked, the gun might not fire when you want it to. So you are wise to replace the pin. I think I read that some people permanently remove it.

1. Loosen rear sight;
2. Slide rear sight over until plunger/spring assembly of magazine disconnect is freed;
3. Remove magazine disconnect safety assembly;
4. Move rear sight back into position;
5. Enjoy a failure-free P345.
