I had put over 1000 rounds in my 1st gen p3at without any problems, then installed the NAA pinky extension, then mag drops every fire. With a new release button, and removal of the pinky stuff, no problems ever again.
FWIW, I'm guessin that the 1,000 rounds had more to do with the mag catch failure (worn out plastic) than the NAA extension. The extra downward pressure of the NAA extension may have contributed to the utimate demise of an already worn mag catch.

Texas-Cajun, who reasons that if NAA extentions caused mag catch failure, Wilson would be in deep do do. ;D

Sorry, Lardog, no can do picture. Home Depot type stores sell 4' self-adhesive clear plastic corner protectors for about $1.50. Mine was called "Corner guard peel and stick" by Palm Beach plastics. It is very thin and you can cut it with scissors. Just cut 3/8 by 1" strip, peel off adhesive paper cover, and stick to rear bottom of mag. No more extension problems. Packer.

Had the same problem with new P3AT with mag extension. Replaced Mag release and add +1 extension had same problem. Used weak hand thumb to to hold thumb away from mag release, no more mag drop problems even with pinky rest mag extension. These little puppies jump more in your hand than most people realize.

I have a buddy with a NIB Kahr MK40 that would drop its mag after every shot. He went to great pains to ensure he wasn't bumping the mag release, yet they still dropped. Kahr finally sent him a super-stiff mag release spring which did the trick.

I wonder if pressure on the bottom of the mag toward the left side of the grip could be causing or contributing to this problem?

Good thinking, Pocketgun! Yes, I think pressure on the left side of extension might lever the mag away from the catch some. That might explain why, if the catch is so worn that it won't keep flush mags in, the plastic shim won't help. Packer.

Ok, went back to the range without the mag extension on the mag. I still had the mag drop so guess I will call KT and order a new catch. I hope this is not hard to install!!. The good news is the ramp job i did was quite good and I hardly had any smilleys using wwb ammo. As long as the mag stay'd put had no fte of any kind. I love my little bug I will try the packer sollution with the new catch. The plus one ext. really makes a diffference of the comfort level and accuracy!!

If you are going to increase the overall height of your pistol, you might as well get an extra round of ammo in the bargain. That is why I would choose the KT extension over the other types.

I value the small size of my P3AT when I conceal it. I might use the extensions on extra mags being carried separate from the pistol, or when qualifying on the range for an extra edge in control.

That's funny! I do it the exact opposite way. I want the extra round and the extra controllabity and accuracy on the first go round. The +1 ext adds no bulk to concealment at all. Only the flush bottom magazine will fit as a spare into my Desantis pocket hide so I carry mag2 that way. I figure in most cases it won't get to the spare mag anyway. Packer.

Yeah, I seriously question the utility of carrying a second mag. When you figure the average distance a typical shooting with a pocket pistol takes place at is well under 3 yards, I doubt if a reload during the altercation would even be possible. If you can still conceal the pistol with the +1 extention in place, so much the better. My pocket holster (handmade by some guy at a gunshow, no brand name) just covers the butt of the gun with the standard floorplate in place. The extension would likely be noticeable as my shorts usually are starting to curve around my leg at this point drawing the fabric over that edge of the holster. I don't wear tight pants or shorts but this still happens.

My feeling is that if I need a larger and more controllable (and less concealable) pistol, I would just bring a P11, Kahr PM9, or even a baby Glock rather than make my small pistol larger. Still the P3AT is so small that even with the extension it would still be a bit smaller than the pistols listed above, so I see your point. BTW, I have a PSP-25 (Browning Baby) in .25ACP I carry when even the P3AT is too big. ;D

The gun would print through due to the extention protruding beyond the anti-print panel of my holster. I could get a different holster that extended further down to alleviate this, but I like the one I have now and I really don't want anything bigger in my pocket if I can help it. Otherwise, might as well just carry a P11. A bit bigger still but more ammo, more power, (somewhat) easier to shoot, etc.
