Was up at my hunting property chronographing some 44 and 357 hand loads. When I got done I took out my P17 for fun and decided to run some rounds through the chrony. For future reference the P17 is listed as having a 3.93" bbl.

I only had two different kinds of 22s with me. The first was CCI Blazers (40 gr solids) and the second was Armscor 36 gr HP HV. FYI, Blazers are made on the same line as CCI Mini Mags. The difference in price is that Mini Mags are quality inspected more frequently than Blazers which potentially limits the fail rate.

I was surprised that the Blazers averaged 50 FPS faster than the Armscor considering the Armscor has a lighter bullet and are supposed to be "high velocity". Average was from 10 shots at 10 feet from the muzzle.

Blasers 990 FPS high 1011, low 976
Armscor 950 FPS high 970, low 932

Next time out I will use some different ammo and post the results.

Just spent most of the day testing loads in my p17.

Here are the numbers from highest velocities to lowest. Average of 5 shots @ 10 feet. Temp was 38 F.

1. CCI Stinger 32 gr 1160
2. Win 555 36 1060
3. Fed bulk pack 36 hvhp 1014
4. Fed auto match 40 998
5. CCI Blazer 40 990
6. Armscor 36 hvhp 950
7. Win 333 36 hvhp 948
8. Rem golden 36 hp 947
9. Win Super X 40 928
10. Rem Thunderbolt 40 925
11. Rem Golden 40 897
12. Aguila Golden Eagle 40 887
13.UMC High Speed 40 882
14. PMC HV 40 880
15. CCI Standard Vel 874

Notes:

-Unless otherwise noted, the 40 gr bullets are solid points 36 gr were hollow points.

-Most of the ammo I've had for a long time. Some of the ammo was quite old and obtained before the Obama era. I don't even remember when/where I got the UMC 40 gr or Aguila Golden Eagle target ammo.

-Shot two versions of Rem Golden Bullets. 40 gr. solids and 36 gr. HPs. The 40 gr. was quite old

-I assumed the Win 555 and 333 were the same ammo just bulk packed into 555 round and 333 round boxes. They surprised me me in that they turned out to have quite different velocities.

-The CCI Blazer ammo was obtained before Obama, re-election.

-CCI Blazer is the same as CCI Mini Mags. They are made on the same line at the same time. Mini Mags are inspected more frequently for quality control, hence the difference in price.

-PMC (Pan Metal Co.) is Korean ammo obtained before Obama.

-While I wouldn't choose to carry/use a 22 pistol for self defense it is debatable whether to use the light weight CCI Stingers or the heavier 40 grain solids as the the best thing to carry. Will the Stingers expand? Will they penetrate? Very few people could withstand 16 rapid shots of anything out of a P17.

-The P17 was 100% reliable during the test. I've now got about 1000 rounds through it. I am impressed. I shot about 300 more rounds through it the day after the test. I've yet to clean it. I pick up my second one from Sportsman's Warehouse in a day or two.
