Got this one in my sate right now. However, I am in the process of working a swap on it. Old local guy that grings me guns to swap at the gunshows brought it over a cweek ago for a trip to the gunshow. He had alrready sent 3 others last month which were a C.V.A. Stalker single shot in 7mm-08, a Rossi single shot in .243, and a 1903-A3 Springfield. Really liked the Springfield, but it is a post war gun assembled from parts by National Ordnance. It's in great shape, but the oldguy wants 6 bills for it. The Winchester 94 is nice and only 4 bills. Kinda down to the lever I can afford. However, I know he would rather swap for something like a Remington 700 in .243 that I have. The Springfield is just too much and I am too blind to shoot it. Pretty much the same for the Winchester also. The Winchester is a post 64 gun, but a pre U.S.R.A. I can live with it. It is in good shape and it works fine.

Trading was kinda flat at the gunshow after the election. Guess there won't be any panic buying going on with the republicans in control. The aisles at the gunshow were pretty empty last Sunday.

Anyway, I came back with all his guns. That will give me a chance to swap him outta the Winchester. Just gotta look at my stuff and decide what I can live without. Kinda low on cash flow cause the show was dead. Got another show in 2 weeks and I will still have it.

Here is a pic of it. Whatta ya think?

Nice looking gun, seems like a nicer piece of wood in the stock than what one usually sees on these. Still, $400 seems high (although I haven't followed them recently). I would have thought somewhere around the high twos/low threes .............................

As I recall, owning a 30/30 in South Texas, isn't it the law ?!!!! I know I always did and don't recall anyone who didn't. Actually preferred the Marlin with the side eject although anyone who puts a scope on a lever gun is fooling himself but ................................

Keep it up !!

Fooling himself how? My 308 lever is one of my top long range guns. Granted, you don't need a scope on a shorter range 30-30 that is being used in deep southern woods for 50 yard shots. You can actually get some decent range from a 30-30 with a light bullet, if you just want to cut paper, and for that a scope isn't a bad plan.

That is nice wood... which implies some age. You see good stuff on anything from before the 70s, even cheap guns.... this one does not seem to be ancient, but it looks like a 70-early80s ish build.

Finally got back to respond. Wife had me visiting relatives, putting up Xmas decorations and remodeling a bathroom. Had to stop that for a while and put in a new water heater too.

As far as .30-30s, I preter the Marlin. Gotta use the scope cause I can't see with the iron sights anymore. I can't even see the front sight at all. So getting this gun is mostly cause I want it. I have no use for it. But. 4 bills is about 150 more than I would give cash for it. That was why I was working a swap with the old guy.

He came by today to pick up the Rossi .243 single shot, youth model. His grandson was coming to hunt at their ranch this weekend and the kid was upset cause he had put the gun up for sale. The kid wanted it back cause he had killed his first deer with it.

I asked if he could be more reasonable on the Model 94. He said 4 bills was it for new. The trade I was trying to make was not anything he wanted. So, back to the gunshow it goes next weekend.

I am assuming that you have a BLR in .308. It is in a clas by itself as far as power goes in a lever gun. Only other gun that comes close is the Savage 99 in the same caliber. They shoot like bolt actions. My buddy has a BLR in .308 and it is as accurate as most good quality bolt guns.

I'd say keep working on him to get the '94 at a price you can live with, it is a pretty gun. I think I would probably jump at 150 or even 100 bucks lower.
I think the wood adds value to it, a quality item is only going to appreciate even if you're shooting it.......................
Just my 2 cents !
