It will work in low light. Red lasers have a tendency to disappear in bright light so it depends on your purpose of use. I assume you are going to side mount it? It looks like it was designed primarily for handguns, but that doesn't mean you can't mount it on your subbie.

It said it came in green also . thats why I wanted it . the reviews were mixed so I decided to wait for something better
