I got a "poof" instead of a bang today. The round was an old PDX1 that had been stored under good conditions. Fortunately, it didn't squib. It went poof, smoked from the ejection port, and then lobbed out of the barrel slow enough that I could see it mosey into the target. I'm not going to read a lot of alarm into this, partly because I don't carry that round and partly because I know duds can happen with anything. I do find it notable that PDX1 is a fairly premium round. My go-to is always Gold Dots in .380 unless I just can't get them at the time. Anyway, just some info to pass along for those with old PDX1 lying around. YMMV
Oh, and one more thing.... THE P3AT ROCKS!!! 2k+ rounds and still running great!

Its hard to say. Modern powder does go bad, usually from exposure to moisture. Its shelf-stable if kept in ideal conditions but stuff happens. It could also have just been lightly loaded -- a manufacturing mistake. I wouldn't think the brand matters.

I shot up my original self defense ammo a while back, some 44 mag from the early 90s, and had a few duds and weak bangs that wouldn't cycle. It was not stored well, though, and I expected about what I got. This was a mix of hornady, Winchester silver tips, some black talons (? I think, Im working off faulty memory here), and a few others. They all had some issues, again, it wasn't stored well.

While I don't use PDX1 in my KT I do use it in another .380 so this bothers me some. I use the 85 grain MagTech in my KT hoping to retain some velocity in that 2.7" barrel.
It was probably just that one in a million round. I bought the ammo 3-ish years ago, when Gold Dots were temporarily scarce. I fired several rounds for function at the time and carried until I was able to get Gold Dots. Since then the PDX1 has been stored in my bedroom closet.
