Did I buy an "old" new gun? It did not come with a soft zippered case and doesn't say it should include one in the manual. (as opposed to a digital manual that shows it is included)

Secondly, if my serial # starts with a "K" is that 2008?

KT went back to using the plastic boxes and droped the zipper case last year ( I think it was a cost reduction thing)
You can call KT for the 'birth date ' of your P3AT

this is from a post that discribes KT numbering.

...Kel-Tec serial numbers are a modified 34base. The KT system doesn't use "I" and "O" since they would be confussed with "1" and "0". Also the two least significant places are base 10. ...

Here are some P3AT serial #s and date purchased

HEC00 Jan 2005 1G
HHS00 May 2005 2G
HQF00 Dec 2005
HRA00 Jan 2006
J0700 Sep 2006
J7C00 Jan 2007
JK8xx on 12-21-07
K0Dxx 10-08-2008

Gotcha about the cases.
As far as the serial # goes, mine is a K and then all numbers...must have been sitting around the shop a while, being dry fired... >:(

Walkers, according to the chart, the gun was mfg late last year. That would mean that it has all of the latest mods. I wouldn't worry about the dry firing issue. It would make more sense to me that the gun sat in the box on a shelf, as if it was out, probably would would have been sold. (at least all the dealers around here can't keep them on display more than a day) But, if was dry fired enough to cause any problems, KT will stand behing it, and make it like new. Enjoy your new little friend.

OK, mine is a K84XX so I feel better.
Really looking forward to hitting the range tomorrow, they have .380 ammo as well. I'll post a range report.

What a sharp little piece of machinery!

I tried to resist.  I swear I tried  ;)  But I couldn't resist getting the calculator out

I picked up a P-3AT a few weeks ago - K70XX.  Probably built fairly recently.
between K0D00 (1300) and K7000 (23800) there were 22,500 made.  years back, they were puting out 1000/week thus 23 weeks from 10/08 would be about 3/09

between K0D00 (1300) and K8400 (27600) there were 26,300 made thus possible 5/09

why not call KT and get the real date of made and I'll add it to the list above

JFB has the best answer. KT will let you know in seconds. I can't imagine a P3 sitting around that long in these times, unless it was "lost stock" hidden on a shelf somewhere. Let us know what you find out.
