I sent my PF9 HC slide and broken HC barrel in for warranty work. I called 3 months later to see what the hold up was. They were confused and couldn't find my slide and barrel. The service work had been completed on 5/3. They found my parts and I finally received them almost a month after the service work was completed. One very large problem. They sent a HC slide and a black barrel, not HC barrel. Oh crap. I have no way to prove I sent a HC barrel. I wait, worried, for their reply.

I hate to tell you, but Kel Tec no longer makes or uses Hard Chrome as a coating. They switched to Nickel Boron some time ago.

Also, if the coating you want is out of stock, they send what they have. Sometimes there's no telling how long before they make more parts in the coating you want.

That's pretty much what I've since learned. The tech told me they are out of HC barrels, they should be in within the month. They did send me the black barrel to get me going again, and will be sending an HC barrel when they come in. From what you've said, maybe I should try for an upgrade from HC or maybe that's what they are replacing it with. Anyhow, It was good of them to send another barrel while they get the new one in.

Warranty work

As an aside, since I purchased an upgrade from the black barrel, It wouldn't be right to replace it with what ever finish happens to be in stock. I would hope they will replace it with an equivalent or better version of HC.
