Trimming fingertip extension

471 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  adamsesq
Does anyone have a picture of a extension that they have trimmed a bit of the hooked part off, probability not huh? Has anyone done this and what is the best way? I have the Bersa type ext. made by Scherer and like it but I still get that little print from the hooked part when in front pocket. I know I should go ahead and get a +1 ext. from KT and probability will soon but wanted to try trimming the hooked off first. I have a dermel but wanted to ask before I started grinding away and more then likely messing the thing up. :-/ Thanks.

Do you honestly believe anyone will think that tiny thing is a gun :D

Wilson – who’s also not wearing those tight fittin’ jeans either

PS go slow and you can’t mess it up too bad
There have been a couple of pics posted over the past couple of years but I couldn't begin to find them. Maybe one of the posters will see this and oblige you with a pic. :-/
I remember someone who did this but it was a PF9. You should be able to find it over there with pics.
You rang?

;)

As far as how I did it, I used my table top belt sander to get it to the rough shape and hand sanded to the final profile.  I sized the extension so that my third finger is half supported.  This works out so that my wife has all four fingers supported.  The tip end comes just past halfway across my ring finger.

On my P11/40 I trimmed the practice mags back a bit.

And the carry mags quite a bit more.

That's not a gray grip, just the lighting.

Hope this helps.

2 cents from here: I have the Bersa extention (which makes my gun 100% more enjoyable to shoot than no extension) and not the Scherer. I think the Bersa is a little more compact and ?might print less? than the Scherer. I'm sure someone else who has both can be more clear about this. Tommy.

[/quote] Thanks everybody. Wilson is probability right, just leave it alone or learn to control it without one. I`ll more that likely get another ext. and experiment a little or perhaps the +1 is the way to go. :-/ Anyway thanks and happy turkey day to everyone.
i did exactly what you described and i used a bench grinder.  a dremel, sandpaper, files or a belt sander would work the same, just take your time and don't sand off more than you want to.

Hmm, it occurs to me that those modified extensions are remarkably similar in size and shape to the KT +1 extension...   w/o the extra round.  :-/

Great observation Tx. A couple of different times I was about to comment how much I liked the look of the shaved down extension, but what you just wrote kept coming to mind!
