I recently acquired a su 16A, and it works fine, 3 feed failures in 300 rounds with my hand loads. It occurred to me it would make a fine little deer carbine in one of the AR conversion calibers. Is this possible? Surely someone has tried, and is anyone currently doing so? Also swapped out the trigger spring for the RL replacement, but its still not very good, are there other trigger up grades out there, or is any 'smith working on them?

Simplest would be to use Black Hills 5.56 MK262 MOD1, 77 grain OTM match rounds. Serious thump, and about the same BC as the 6.8 SPC II. It is the same round used by SDMRs in the sandbox, and is unbelievably accurate.

As you said handloads, I would guess the FTFs were ammo issues. I have owned two SU-16s since about 2006, and have never had a FTF using factory 5.56 of any make. That was using USGI aluminum 30 rounders, with Magpul followers, Israeli Orlite 30 rounders, or USGI aluminum 20s, with aluminum followers (Vietnam era mags).
