I want to coat them like my slide, but not sure how hard they are to take out. any ideas? I found a YouTube video for the mag release, so I might attempt that.

It'll be gunkote titanium color, I think it looks great, and will look even better when the trigger (pops going on it) slide lock, takedown, mag release are painted

The mag catch is the easier of the two. You can remove it with the gun just field stripped if you have a small screwdriver/pick and needle nose pliers. The slide lock will require you to remove the frame. Check out the stickied thread titled "disassembly and repair" above. It has good instructions and pictures. If you need any help we can walk you through it.

I didn't do that. I had someone else do it for me on another forum. I had overnight surface rust on my slide while it was in the holster, and asked around for advice on how to coat it. then someone messaged me and he said that he felt bad and offered to spray it for me.
