I emailed Keltec and asked them to please redesign the RFB to use M1A mags.
My reason? Good FAL mags are drying up, and Checkmate M1A mags are excellent and I WANT an RFB but I also have M1As and love them, and would benifit from compatable mags. I recieved a reply that my suggestion would be passed on to R&D. I would hate to see the RFB droppped from production due to a lack of obtainable mags. If you agree with my reasoning, and I understand if you don't, please email Keltec and request the M1A mag conversion. I believe they would sell a TON of RFBs that utilize M1a mags but I am not allknowing.(I leave that to my wife).
If you agree, THANKS. If not, thats OK.

I agree with you, but there's about as much chance of that happening as KT offering a full carbon fiber RFB. I would love to be proven wrong. I'd speculate on a much built up RDB in .308 before they invest appreciable R&D in the RFB. And don't get me wrong...I love my RFB.

The RDB in .308 would be a more likely candidate due to the way the RFB's bolt works, and Id imagine they would make it take AR10/sr25 type mags as the base model RDB already uses an AR style magazine.

That said, it seems to me that the RFB was designed around it's mag in a time when good quality FAL mags were everywhere... And if it had been the other way around ( desgined after m14 type mags) I'd imagine you would have ended up with a very different rifle.

I'd say it simply is what it is. Also they seem to have no problem selling them as they stand now. Lol... Even when Made of unicorn horns and unobtanium. Lolol

The way Kel Tec has talked about the RFB lately...leads most of us to assume they're not going to be making it for much longer. And the reason why is not really much to do with the mag at all. They've stated it's just to danged expensive to make, the new RDB is much cheaper to make...and they seem to be leaning towards it instead of the RFB.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'll add my voice to the chorus. I don't see Kel-Tec substantially redesigning the RFB to get away from FAL mags. I fully expect them to put any such engineering efforts into an "RDB Heavy".

I'm looking forward to the .223 RDB, ASAP, and I'd also buy the 308 version so the .223 RDB can have a big brother. For the sake of manufacturing efficiency, I think the RDB platform, even with an extra inch or two in overall length compared to the RFB, is the way Kel-Tec will be going with their bullpup rifles in the future.
