Sub2000 as suppressor host?

7508 Views 21 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  wwbeal
Hey all, I'm considering purchasing a sub2000 with the intent to put my Mystic X on it. How do you think it would do?

  • Would the gun be badly overgassed? Any reliability issues?
  • How bad is the blowback in your face?
  • Is 147gr 9mm ammo subsonic?
  • On the "new" gen 2's, can you attach a suppressor without removing the front sight?
  • Is the rifle easy enough to clean?

Thanks

I have no personal experience with a can but wouldn't expect much blowback if you're right handed. I just don't see where the gas could come out on the left side...

I imagine you'll want the heavier brass bolt and/or a heavier charging handle.
Zero issues. My buddy ran my G2 during a PCC match and Osprey 45 with zero issues. I used my Gen 1 as it is my trunk gun and like training with it.
I have run a SiCo Octane 45 for many rounds with no reliability issues. With this particular setup, gas to the face is not a problem. I am a right handed shooter. 147gr ammo has remained subsonic in the two varieties I have tried. The 124gr AE Suppressor load is noticeably louder which is not the case in most pistols. There is sufficient thread length to use a suppressor without removing the front sight. The rifle is super easy to clean. Just buy it already. Haha. Excuse the clutter but there is mine when I first got it.

Good to hear, thanks for the input! I'll see if I can't nab one, they're a bit hard to find!
Here is my setup, It sits as is in the safe, so no need to fold. I will be adding a red lion to it I think.

what is the final cost after everything is said and done to get a silencer and what were the costs for silencer , tax , trust ? Also , what is a trust for ? Thanks for the answers in advance
Mine is set-up for a can, but the can hasn't arrived yet.

It used to be that you needed approval from local law enforcement to buy NFA items as an individual, but not as a company or trust. That meant a trust was a good way to buy if LE in your area doesn't like toys.

Now there are still some advantages, but less so since they no longer need to approve - they just receive notification.
I have a Gen 2 9mm that I use with the Silencerco 9mm Osprey suppressor. My Gen 2 didn't come with the locknut front sight. Shot pattern was 8 in low to right of center of bull with suppressor installed. Dead on without suppressor. Keltec sent me newer front sight with locknut. Trouble corrected. Seems that first of Gen 2 without locknut would move front sight and change point of aim. Very quiet with 147 gr ammo. I also have a heavy bolt and Sumo charging handle.

Trusts are completely optional. You don't have to get one if you don't want one, but they do have some advantages.

Basically, Trusts are a legal document that acts like a person. When you are filling out the paperwork to apply for your suppressor, instead of writing down your name, you write down "Joe's Trust" (or whatever you name it). Once you get approved, "Joe's Trust" now legally owns that suppressor, meaning that everyone who is named in the document can possess the new silencer.

Basically, it's just group ownership. My trust is in possession of four suppressors now, and I have my whole immediate family on there. My folks can take them out of the safe and shoot whenever they want. Premade trusts cost about $50-150, silencershop and silencerco sell them. If you are planning on adding more than a few thousand bucks worth of NFA items, you should get a custom tailored trust made by a reputable lawyer. But for a couple small items, a cheapo trust is fine.

Once that's done, you need to get fingerprinted and your picture taken. Some people go down to their local police station, others use Silencershop kiosks, which are found at local gun stores.

After that, you buy your silencer, pay the $200 tax, and wait 8-9 months.

To sum it all up, it's a total pain, but well worth it. My only regret is not doing it sooner :)

hum ... i keep seing that people using cans on their sub 2k are using 45 cans ... i assume the tolerances with the front sight are such that you might be asking for baffle strikes if you use a 9mm can ? i have both , so no big deal but one of my 9mm can is super light weight .. then again i don't want to send it down range either .... your thoughts ???

I used my tirant 9 on mine and shot about ~400 or so rounds with it and I had no issues. Ammuniton varied from freedom's 147gr and 165gr hush ammo.

:) I am nearing the end of my wait, it shouldn't be much longer.
Anyone having success suppressing a ,40 cal. S2K? If so what device and which ammo works for you?

how would you rate the hush compared to the 147's

sound and accuracy ?

i've been contemplating getting some to test out and also to see if it is an improvement in sound over the 147's ...

if accuracy is good as well , that would be a bonus !

I prefer the sound over the 165's over the 147's. I personally think it is a little bit quieter and the extra cost is worth it. Acurracy wise it grouped decent but mind you I was shooting standing. I picked up more 165's during BF and will be going to the outdoor range this weekend, so I can actually see how it groups.
I had trouble with my gen 2 with gemtech tundra. extreme poi shift. how is a foot off at 10 yards sounds like. ?? im a nube on this forum. hoping to get input from others!!
