I'm considering getting a Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x24mm Riflescope w/ Throw Down PCL AR91424I, the illuminated one on my SU-16C. I wanted to know if it is possible to use some sights along with the scope. I'm not talking about co-witness. If this means taking off the front sight I will have to wait until later when I can afford the Red Lion fore end. I'm really asking what kind of mount and rings or mount with rings, do I need to use be able to be able to do this when later on I do add the Red Lion for end.

You will not be able to use the sights with the scope mounted. At 1x it is not the same as a red dot, and your front sight will be blurry to invisible depending on the magnification. That is a nice choice of scope, and I wouldn't worry about sights with that mounted on your rifle.

I have my scope on a riser with a pass through in it.....i moved the rear sight back to fit it..so I can still use the iron sights in a pinch..i think I bought the riser on amazon for less then $10 it was a little long so I had the machinist at work cut an inch off of it. It worked out well. I also for a while had a red dot optic on the side of the scope....it was a little cumbersome so I took it off and opted for a laser on top of the scope in case of a home defense situation.

Did you replace the front or rear sight with a pop up or leave the original ones? If you did leave the original did the riser push the scope high enough to keep the front sight from interfering with the scope?
I thought about the red dot on top but like you I think it defeats the compact nature of the rifle. I think the laser is a good option but I'd probably wait until I can replace the for end with the Red Lion one.

I have the original factory sights on it ...i had to move the rear sight back all the way to fit the riser...the scope more then clears the sight and with the riser I am still able to get the piston out for cleaning with out interference from the scope...the laser dot is quite small and I don't even know it's there most of the time.

If your mind is made up on wanting to have magnification then I suggest the primary arms 1x6 ACSS, I think it is a better optic than the bushnell the glass is quite good and the ACSS reticle gives you range estimation and BDC... personally though I think the light weight compact nature of the SU-16 is just begging for a red dot and for that I would recommend the Holosun micro dot with the ACSS reticle. you get range estimation and BDC but in a nice compact micro dot form and it has a 50,000 hour battery life
