I was at the range the other day and my new-to-me P-3AT broke!  The inner recoil spring came out the front in classic peening failure fashion.  Of course, had I done better research here BEFORE I bought a used P-3AT I might not have bought that one.  

The good news is that Kel-Tec said to send it in and they'll take care of it.  So the wait begins.  It looks like I'll be carrying the 1911 a lot more now, and it seemed to get heavier once I bought the Kel-Tec.

Sorry to hear that. What is your Serial Number? (xx out the last two if you want "privacy&quot. There was a batch of slides that made it into production weapons around December 2006.

+1 on the JFB Washers that Burley linked you to. Do a search here for "JFB Washers" and you will find lots of references outside of the Trading Post too.

Does anyone know what the current turnaround time is for repair work?  I sent in the whole slide assembly with barrel and recoil springs/guide rod.  I assume they will just replace the slide and send it back.  It's pretty obvious what the problem is, what with the recoil spring sticking out the front.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure mine falls in that range.  Looking at the bright side, the blueing won't be worn from holster wear anymore if I get a new slide

You will get a new slide.  I had one that was in the "prone to peen" period but I put a washer in it and shot the heck out of it.  Then it got temporarily placed in someone else's hands for a while and they were close with some people at KT so they swapped it out while they had it, otherwise I never would have.  Oh the good ol' days. Wifey's daily carry and frequent shooter is in that range with bunches of rounds through it and no problems due solely to JFB and his washers.

I didn't send in the frame or grip.  That way I could legally send it priority mail without going through an FFL.  Maybe I can get them to send me the new parts.  I've been told I'm very patient so perhaps I could handle putting in the new trigger block.

You probably could - but trust me - pay the $30 and ask them to send you a new grip with assembly pre-installed. They should be able to send it back to you with your new slide and therefore no shipping charges.

I wish I could say there was more uniformity. I would suggest that:

You should not EXPECT a call when they get it.

If they recognize it as an immediate no work replacement they MIGHT send out a new one within a couple of weeks;
or it could take the normal 4-6.

If you gave them an email address you MIGHT get an email letting you know it is being returned but don't count on it, big brown might just show up on your doorstep with a 2 day air package out of the blue.

Calls to them will generally be met with a "we have it, 4-6 weeks" answer regardless of what is actually happening. The only exception to this would be if you were to call and ask that extra parts (like the grip/NEW hammer) be sent back with it which MIGHT get you some special attention in line.

Sorry. They do great with fixing anything but they don't communicate that well.

Assuming you provided an email addy, they should email to acknowlege receipt and again when it is being returned.

My S/N is JW6xx--I guess I'll call them but hate to bother them with just this-worried about future peening. I think I have a fairly recent gun.

If you got an e-mail when they received it, then they should send you one when they ship it out.

Your pistol is very new. You shouldn't have a peening problem.

My serial number is JD9xx with a HC slide and I had the peening problem. I sent only the slide in 6 months or so ago. The new slide looks good. It was purchased in July, 2007.

I've had my P-3AT back for a couple of weeks now and it is working great.  It seems to be a little more accurate now, perhaps due to better barrel to slide lockup with a new, unworn slide?  Also, I noticed the new guide rod now sticks out the front of the slide further than the old one did.  I have been VERY pleased with the service I have received from Kel-Tec and will definitely consider purchasing from them in the future.
