I have been looking around at these. And I think it will make cleaning much easier, certainly less messy. It gets hot and I usually clean my guns inside. I have to go through the process of covering my work space with newspapers or towels. Any members have any first hand knowledge or reliable source to get one of these kits?

The only knowledge I have of "solvent traps" is that the term
is best surrounded by quotation marks--since no one really
thinks they're used for catching solvent (including BATFE, most
likely). Not a list that I'd want to be on, now or in the future.

If you're trying to catch the spray effect that comes as you
push a brush out the muzzle, just put a small cardboard box
or wastepaper basket on the floor and put the muzzle in to
it before the brush exits the muzzle.

There is a screw on attachment, which you can use to attach an oil filter.

It is perfectly legal to use it for the express purpose of catching solvent when you clean out your gun..

If you use it for making a silencer out of an oil filter, it obviously becomes a felony then.

as best as I can tell that was their purpose, to make illegal silencers. I am not sure its a real product nor if it would actually work to actually catch solvent, whatever that even means.

As a side note, are you pouring the stuff down your gun or something? There shouldn't be anything to catch or clean up. Get your pad damp but not soaked in the stuff, jack it thru the barrel, follow with a dry one, and its done 99% of the time. If you have some sort of really bad mess, it might take a little more, or a repeat of that, but there still shouldn't be solvent pouring out the gun or anywhere else. More isn't going to get it any cleaner. ??

I usually clean my guns traditionally, with a brush and patch. But have recently been turned on to bore snakes. Just wondered if this was the next greatest thing, or just a passing fad.

Personally. ..it's just a way to try to get around the legal issues of untaxed silencers. By calling them "traps".

yeah, those prepper "solvent traps " look like a good way to get a felony on your record. Trust me, they already have your names so doing a legal $200 silencer probably doesn't attract much attention, especially if a couple dozen million gun owners get one

Ok true, I should clarify the traps I was referring to were the oil filter ones. The hollow tube kits can be as good as the hardware you put in them. I tend to forget about the kits because the oil filter ones were the first I heard of.

Not worth it. No point in bringing yourself or this community negative attention.

you want quiet use a .22 short
A standard velocity .22 short is actually about as loud as ordinary .22 LR...will still ring your ears out of a 10-22.

Quiet, are the CB loads from CCI. Walmart used to carry the CCI
CB shorts. I didn't notice any difference in report from the CB short or longs.

The CBs are pretty noisy from a pistol, but from rifle barrel, they come close to a pellet gun.

By the by, here's a Hickok45 review of the item discussed above.

A co-worker has two solvent traps, I think around 7"-8" each. He did the ATF paperwork and did a pro job with a drill press. They work as well as the Knights armament and Sure fire suppressors we have at work, and for around 160 each.

I am not clear as to why they have laws against them. it would be nice to go hunting or shooting and not have to wear bulky ear protection.

I guess the thought is people would be firing guns more inside city limits if they didn't have to worry about people hearing them.

It's just a stupid law and people believe the Hollywood version that makes a quiet little fart sound. There is no reason they should be harder to buy than the gun they go on.
