Welllllll, crapola. So much for that New Year's resolution about buying fewer guns. Just a couple days into 2017, and S&W comes out with this thing...

https://www.gunsamerica.com/blog/ne...making-great-pistol-even-better-hands-review/

Basic list of stuff they changed/fixed/upgraded:

1. M&P Pro Series trigger is now standard in all M&P's;
2. There's a 5" model available now (instead of just the M&P Pro);
3. Metal frame insert in frame to reinforce it and reduce felt recoil;
4. More "grabby" grip frame texture (Talon Grips fixed that problem with my current M&P, so maybe it won't be necessary on the new one);
5. Beaver tail is gone on full-size models (looks like the M&P Compact's rear now);
6. Extra backstrap size (an in-between size of Medium/Large);
7. Some front slide serrations (yawn);
8. Serial number location moved;
9. Steel magazine release button;
10. Other little stuff I guess I missed in the article.

Saw a video of Jerry Miculek rapid-firing the snot out of one this morning. Me want. :)

I got a chance to handle the tan one today at the range. I really like the grip - even with the small backstrap and I have big hands. The slide release was way too hard to access. Internals looked rather different. I have an M&P but can't really comment on what they changed. Trigger seemed pretty good and light / decent clicky reset - especially for out-of-the box.

Oh no. Not another gun to add to my list of wants!

I want another semi-auto 9mm. Well, kind of. I certainly don't need another one. It will be one of the following (unless I add even more to the list of potentials at a later date!)

  • Walther PPQ
  • HK VP9
  • S&W M&P
  • S&W Shield
  • CZ 75
  • CZ Rami
  • Beretta 92

This is a low priority list. I'm in no hurry. Nothing interests me greatly at the moment, but I still gotta have a list of potentials for when the mood strikes. This list has got your big guns, your little guns, and steel guns, alloy guns, and plastic guns. The only thing consistent between them is the caliber.

I like the upgrades they've made to the M&P M2.0 line. I wasn't familiar with this upgrade until this thread alerted me to it.

It's all personal preference. I prefer to slingshot my slide closed rather than use a slide release. I prefer the European style in-trigger-guard mag release over the more common push-button. I prefer hammer-fired over striker-fired.

I have handed some of my most beloved guns to others, and they just shrug. And vica versa. Everyone has to find what they like, what suits them best, and not be concerned about what everybody else thinks or has. I like to be different from the masses too. That's why I have one Glock and one AR, and feel that is enough of those. Nice enough guns, but other things excite me more.

:D
Some of us prefer or like to use it as a release though too. Some of us train/trained that way.
Training is one thing; what the instruction manual of most every handgun manufacturer calls that part, however, is indicative of its intended usage and thus altogether another thing. :)
