I searched KTOG for .357 mag recipe, and could not find a thread, so Im asking you guys,as I have only been reloading for about a year.

What recipe are you using for .357 mag using a SWC alloy bullet with new brass?
I have Unique, Bullseye , and Power Pistol, for powders.
I cant seem to find consistecy from different data charts. Heres the bullets I got.

With lead bullets your pretty much stuck with 38 loads, i use unique. My load for a 158gr lead bullet in 357 cases is 5 grains, thats the max in my hornady book.

Looked at your bullets, think maybe i'd start at 5 and work up alittle.

Ok,
now what OAL are you doing?

Toney these are not just lead. they are brinell 18 alloy for magnum loads .

I will not load straight lead in any caliber over 900 fps.

I just cant get the same recipe from different souces.
Im getting 6 Bullseye and 5.2 Bullseye as max.
, and varying OAL .
Im getting 6 gr unique and also 7 gr unique max.

I have a recipe written down that I have used before, but was just trying to see if someone has a better idea.

Thanks guys.

1.61" OAL with 160 swc - old Keith style.single grease groove. Current max load on Alliant website is 6.8 Bullseye. All my old "Hercules powder" max loads are obsolete now..too hot!

Ok,
well I finally got a load working, that I like a lot ,and is very accurate, and fairly hot.

Using the above bullets : 158 gr Alloy 18 brinnel SWC
6.7 grain Bullseye
1.590 OAL with crimp at bottom of first land
New Starline brass
Federal 100 small pistol primers.

How accurate you ask.

Hard to believe, but Ill let a few guys in Georgia verify, next Saturday.
Out of a 2" barrel Rossi revolver, at 10 yds, I consistently got 3" groups , with left hand, free hand, not natural for me.

Fairly hot load? Its all I want ,with left hand grip, and semi support with right palm and 2 fingers. With full 2 hand grip , should be fine.
I also believe these would be easier to handle out of my 5,5" Uberti SA revolver.

I would love to try this round, out of a Lever action 20" barrel ( which I do not posses YET) ,for accuracy. Ummh Huumm, next cough cough Sat cough.

Of the powders listed, I would use Unique.
Maybe 6 grains? You had better check the Aliant web site for load data.
