Believe it or not there are people that do it and even kits made for it: http://www.brassworldeshop.com/sharpshooter22rimfirereloadingkits22lr22magreloader.aspx

I had the idea of pulling the bullets from loaded factory ammo and experimenting with heavier .223 jacketed bullets, even going as high as 69 gr or heavier to try and work up a subsonic load that would still cycle the CMR. Then I checked the twist rate on the CMR, and there goes that idea. 1 in 14! I'm surprised even the 50gr rounds stabilize. Would be great if I could custom order a 1/9 or 1/8 twist barrel. ;)

yea they were reloading 22 lr too. Someone was trying to figure out how with nail gun "blanks". I was tempted to try to pull and powder the powderless aguila ammo that was the only thing on the shelf at one point.

I can't see this being worthwhile. The only place it makes sense is the PMR. The PMR eats ammo like nuts though, 3 mags is close to 100 rounds. You re-prime the used cases one round at a time in an involved process. This would translate to hours of work for every range trip (compare to 9mm or something which can be made 200/hour or better on a turret and more on a prog.

Ive been down this road... made my own cases and other aggravating processes. It has to be a pretty special gun to justify it, and in my case, the guns were not ammo hogs so a little ammo goes a long way. If they shot out like an AR or glock, I would have given up on it.

Which changes nothing. Priming a 22M case is still going to be a hassle. Pulling apart a functional one is doable. You could probably get close to your subsonic silence with a 223 projectile.
Changes nothing? Your post was all about cost per round for blasting with a PMR. I'm not concerned about cost per round, and I wasn't going to be priming any cases. In fact I'm not going to be doing anything because as I stated the twist rate is wrong for a heavy enough bullet to cycle the CMR and remain subsonic.

not what I meant. Whether you reload for $ or for a custom ammo, its the same trouble -- either you tear down working ammo or reprime a case was all I meant.

Hmm. 1100ish fps. I would think a 55 gr 223 would be about right (??). Flip it so the heavy end is facing out and it is more stable. 1:11 should stabilize that, maybe use a boat tail so it feeds well and has a little aerodynamics. It is not ideal, but I think it would hit what you aimed at up to 25-50 yards. I could be wrong, my physics is getting rusty.

I have seen the kits and videos. They give me one of those "as seen on tv" vibes. People I trust who actually tried it had dubious results. It works, sort of, but you get duds and its about like priming berdain steel cases... you can DO it, but its a bit of trouble. /shrug I didn't try it myself after asking around. Not one person who had actually tried it and had no stake in selling products was able to say "this is the most awesome thing since black powder". The most positive comments I got were "too much trouble". The other comments were much less glowing. This was for 22, not 22M, but I can't see much difference in the mechanics.
