Are there any suggestions on sighting in the .40 cal version?

Not HOW to adjust it, that's easy... But like an AR15, where you have the 25M or 50M "battle zero" methods... Eg, sighting it in at 25M has it also on target at 300M, and a couple inches high in between...

Has anyone ever done the ballistics on this gun and come up with a generic recommendation to battle zero this thing at it's expected reasonable range?

And before I even get started with that, I had to of course fix the front sight that was rotated to the right 1 or 2 degrees. Not horrible, but noticeably off center if you are OCD with this stuff. haha

Easy fix, I guess mine has the newer one that has the locking nut rather than the set screw... Got it lined up perfect now.

Many years ago when I first got my .40 sub 2000 (Glock), I ran some ammo through the chronograph. The same ammo through the sub vs through a Glock 22 was about 200 to 225 fps faster. Can't remember what that ammo was right now but the fps on the box was right on for the Glock.
Maybe a starting point for your ballistic chart?

Hmmm... Interesting... That's a good bit faster.

I will do some research and see if others chime in in the meantime... Maybe we can come up with a battle zero for this gun, so that you can easily sight it in at 25M or something, and know that you are good out to 120M or something without really adjusting your point of aim...

I use the 25M for my AR... Maybe with the lower velocity it will be 20M and 100M or something... the point where the bullet crosses over...

Check the manual. They have a chart for 9mm.
Haha, the old manuals had a chart.
Iirc the bullet crosses the line of sight at either 20 or 25 yards, is 2" high at 50, coming back down to line of sight at 100. There is a copy of the old manual in the FAQ. Also check out the long running ballistics and chrony thread.

Ok, cool, I will look in there and see what I can come up with.

I am working on a chart for a 165gr winchester white box load, assuming 1,330fps(200 more than a pistol gets) and going from there...

I will share whatever I find

The 165 Winchester is about all I shoot now, available in my area. With a red dot, I zero at 25, and have no problems on 8" steel out to about 75 yds. I have one target at 130 yds, but there is noticeable drop at that distance. Couple of years ago, my son took a doe at about 50 yds. With this round. POA and POI was right on, complete pass thru, deer piled up in 30 yds. I would not trusted this shot with a Glock but the extra barrel length, and projectile speed, well, the results were impressive.

Hmmm... SO I wonder if using iron sights, if I sight at 20 yards, it will be 2" high at 50, and about dead on at 100?

I don't see me using this type of gun much further than that...
Yes. The ballistics between the 2 rounds are so similar as to be negligible at the 3 - 5 MOA this thing shoots at 100 yards. I shot mostly 165gr WWB for the first few years I owned mine. It is 1 gallon milk jug accurate at 100yards with the fixed sights.

So took it to the range today. 225 rounds of 180 gr with no hiccups. 100% perfect.

Except I learned that I should have left the front sight alone. When I saw it was a degree or two cocked to the right, and set it up straight, that was the wrong thing to do.

The rear sight is just a tiny bit off, to the right. So my straightening the front, made it really hard to dial in. I had the front post all the way to the right to the point that it looked goofy and the adjuster screw looked like it was gonna fall out, and I could barely get it shooting straight.

It was very consistent, but not quite on the bullseye...

So when I got home, I put it back a tiny bit crooked like it came from the factory, and I will have to re sight it in next time I shoot it.

Part of me want to put Magpul flip up sights on the top rail and get rid of the stock sights, but my fear is that they would be too close together, and while I can fold it, it won't fold enough to click together...

Any thoughts.

Anything you put on the top rail will pretty much keep it from fully folding. Kel-tec is supposedly sighting these in before they box them up, but some people get theirs with an odd sight picture if that's happening.
