Man buys knife, stabs 2 at Salt Lake City store

SALT LAKE CITY — A man stabbed two people at the Smith's Marketplace grocery store in downtown Salt Lake City before being subdued by a bystander.

The attack took place around 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the store at 455 S. 500 East.

According to a witness, it appears one man was stabbed in the side of the head and another was stabbed in the stomach. The exact condition of the victims is unknown, but police believe the injuries are very serious and possibly critical.

Police say a bystander with a concealed carry permit witnessed the attack and stepped in to keep it from escalating.

"(The bystander) was suspicious of what might be going on, and when he saw the stabbing, he just drew his pistol and challenged the individual," which caused the alleged attacker to lie down on the ground, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brian Purvis.

By the time police officers arrived on the scene, the man was subdued and is now in custody.

I'm sure the mass media isn't going to broadcast this story. I'd be surprised if they did.
And the crappy part, is that they SHOULD broadcast it.. I believe it would make more 'anti gun' folks glad that there are those of us that do carry.. When the police just aren't there, citizens that are armed will be if needed.

In Ohio you are not permitted to pull your weapon unless the threat is directed toward you or your family and there is no way to escape the situation without the use of force. I'm glad there are places where a CCW can be put to good use like that

It's not negative enough of a story to attract a lot of drama and get a lot of "OMG!" effect, therefore most news outlets will refuse to report such "mundane" and "uninteresting" news events. What you see/hear/read in the news is and has always been a matter of what gets the biggest popular reaction, NOT what is necessarily the most important current events for people to know.

Just because it's on a local broadcast station doesn't mean that MSM will cover it. Local stations show stories about high school sports, after all. Of course if we can drum up clicks for that story, it is more likely to go national.

Unfortunately, the media still find ways to turn a good story into a bad one.

I remember some incident where a knife-wielding bad guy was threatening a store manager. A woman shopper pulled her handgun and held the bad guy until police arrived. The news story, however, focused on another shopper who was nearly hysterical over the fact that someone had a gun in the store.
