This happened to me yesterday and I'm not sure how. I realize the manual specifies proper assembly and disassembly, but I'm also aware that this can be a common occurrence especially on the ar15 side of the market. I called kel-tec the day after and they immediately sent out a replacement.

i understand it happens but the concern is no aftermarket support which is obvious. but when something like this happens you can only wish. i mean in a perfect world...tungsten or titanium firing pins stock would be a dream come true.

It looks like you activated the Two Part Warranty. If your firing pin breaks, you get to keep both parts.

This reminds me that I need to order some Just In Case spare parts. I was waiting to see if a consensus develops about whether it's better to get a Kel-Tec RDB extractor pin or a quality aftermarket extractor parts kit for an AR.

I like to have small replacement parts for my guns, for the items I'm most likely to break or lose. Kel-Tec is great about providing these spare parts at a very reasonable cost, and their website now makes it super simple to place an online order. I have spare parts for my PLR-16, SU-16, various SUB-2000s and SU-22. I need to put together an order for the KSG, CMR-30, PMR-30 and RDB. Let's see. Did I forget anybody? :)

Resurrecting this older post as I had a firing pin fail over the weekend in the exact same fashion.

Had ~1,200 rds through the rifle and must have had the failure in between range trips, as I experienced the failure on round 1 (i.e. "click not bang") over the weekend. Ejected live round, no dent on primer and almost immediately knew what was up. Tried round 2 just for good measure and of course the same.

Thankfully I had the foresight to request a spare firing pin in the past and actually put it in my range bag. So the day was not all lost.

As usual, a replacement is on the way at no cost (basically a spare for the spare, thanks, Ericka!), but I also asked if there was any particular reason a few of us on the forum here experienced this. Quoting Ericka: "As far as I know, a batch of pins were messed up in heat treat, but not caught until some had already shipped, so the new ones I am sending you should be ok."

My serial is Z06XX. Wondering if the others with failures are in the same serial number neighborhood.

Yeah, I'm concerned too.
Seems a bad batch of hardened firing pins are to blame. My PMR-30 got to about 2500-3000 rounds before it broke. And I wasn't happy about that.

Firing pin failures in the RDB platform are very, very rare. Less than 1%
So I'm not so worried.
I have the factory warranty. KT has been good to me.

First trip to the range with new RDB-C. I was sighting in, adjusting the gas, trying different mags, and trying different ammo. Since I was experimenting, I never had more than 5 rounds in mag regardless of mag size (yay Freedom Week!). I suspect I was less than 100 rounds and then it goes click. It goes click 2 more times and then I look at the cartridges. Not even a mark for a light strike. Came home and took it part. I seem to have a broken firing pin. I really hope it's a bad heat treat since this was pretty disappointing for the first trip out.

Here's a pic of a couple spent cases and the three that went click. Not a scratch.

I dont have a spare firing pin, but I will. I'll open a case with Keltec and then maybe order extra on my own. I'll only report back if their service is unusual or a new pin breaks too.

What serial range is your rdb? Wondering if this is an older model.
