Hello all,

Newcomer to the forum and newbie to rifles in general, which would explain my newbie question.

I recently bought a gen 2 40 cal subbie and have been accessorizing a bit. Thanks to everyone in the sub porn post btw. TONS of great pictures and ideas!

My question...I bought a viridian x5lr to go on my bottom rail thinking that the picatinny rail was a standard size and anything would work. Unfortunately from my reading I think there is a difference between a pistol rail and rifle rail and I have light that won't fit. Does anyone know if there is an adaptor or simple solution to make this guy fit? I really like the light and got a good price so I would prefer to keep it if possible.

I'm not aware of any difference between the rails. Picatinny as a Mil-spec standard. Some of the lights and lasers come with different inserts for different platforms. Is that possible with yours?

Of course it should be understood that there MAY be a little difference in the polymer rail on the Sub2K forearm. Try a little sanding here and a little sanding there until your Viridian fits.

Thanks for the reply 3wbdriver! Unfortunately it didn't come with any inserts or additional mounting hardware. The manual said that they sell additional rail sets for mounting but I can't find any. I sent an email into viridian but won't see a response until at least Monday.

I thought it could be the plastic rail as well. But I just purchased the red lion forend and it didn't fit that rail either. The viridian seems to take a taller more narrow rail. Idk if this is a weaver vs picatinny issue. I'm trying to read up on the differences now.

Ok. But a Picatinny mount is supposed to be able to fit both Weaver and Picatinny rails, while a Weaver mount may NOT fit some Picatinny rails. The wide of both rails is the same, but sometimes the depth and width of the cuts on Weaver rails is shallower. Is the clamp part of the Viridian just not opening wide enough? A picture of the light/laser would be helpful. And having said all that I'll be out of touch for the next 2 days and unable to help until later Monday.

Post some pictures. Somebody will be here to help. Just as a guess, it sounds like a Weaver mount not fitting on the Picatinny rail.

I'm traveling today but I will post pictures when I get back home later this week!

I emailed viridian and they told me they don't make any other adaptors for it. So if no one else has suggestions I might come down to a file and some sand paper
