I found a good deal on a Gen1 with a rail and no factory sights. The front of the barrel is ribbed/knurled. I see SR-FRONT SIGHT COMPLETE *1ST GEN* for $25. What does it take to put on?

I don't have the rear sight either, and don't see any parts listed. I could see going aftermarket, if I do what do I need besides the sight itself? Is there a spring etc?

They're far from perfect but I'm happy enough with the sights on a different Sub2000 I have. I can't live with the MBUS that were on it keeping it from folding... I guess another option would be an offset red dot or something.

That ribbed/knurling is a sleeve that was molded into the plastic front sight. It's held on by locktite, you'd have to use a heat gun to get it hot enough to break the bond and remove it, then the new front sight would just slide on. The Gen 1 front sight is IMHO junk, you'd be better upgrading to an Red Lion Precision front site. However if money is an issue, then the factory front site will work.

As for the rear sight, does it still have the aluminum spacer and screws installed? Pick up one of the aftermarket rear sights for it.

It sounds like the previous owner was using a red dot or something similar.

There's still an aluminum spacer and screws, yes.

The previous owner was using MBUS on a rail, but I'm not a fan of the significantly shorter sight radius or lack of folding.

Red Lion might be the way to go. Should I remove the stock bushing? I certainly have the equipment to do it, just don't know if there's an advantage to their adapter for stock bushing vs bare barrel.

And huh, looking at my two Gen1s side by side there are significant differences. One is an E9Txx, the other an ENZxx. The E9T has significantly thicker reinforcement above the pistol grip on the right side (or is it that it's thinner in other places? and I suppose it could be due to 9 vs 40, ENZ is 40 while E9T is 9), as well as finish differences (E9T barrel, rear tube, nut appear to be blued while ENZ appear to be parkerized). And I sure don't see much difference between the Glock mag catch and the other mag catch, the frame itself looks very similar - if I ever end up pulling them all the way apart (to swap a trigger or something) I might have to see if those parts swap. The ENZ has a much nicer trigger too, don't know if it's had work done to it or what exactly.

Can anyone ID this rail?

One has a standard peep and the other has the combat aperture.
IMO, both are excellent quality!

That is the factory rail. You don't Have to remove the bushing if you use the Red Lion sight. Just order the correct adapter. Or order both types and if you want to take off the bushing later you'll have the adapter to reinstall the R.L. sight. You have to remove bushing if you want to go back with the original type factory sight.

I see you're in Alameda. I removed the bushing on mine and did the RLP with muzzle brake, this got the rifle over 30" without the snap on buttpad which can come off pretty easy. Harder for it to be considered too short for CA laws. Put a flip down aftermarket sight on it. Personally I like the Gen 2 forearm over a quad rail. I think your forearm is the one from Keltec for the rifle.

Given that I'm hoping I get to remove the spacer and BB early next year after registration I don't think I'll be working on other options for now. I can't imagine a brake doing much given how low the pressure is from a pistol caliber at 16".

I doubt I'll keep it on, the guy included the stock handguard and that might go back on. Or maybe I'll just pull the rails off (and cut them down for where I do want rail for light/maybe red dot)...

Related to this gun, and hitting targets: any suggestions on where I can find a short rail section to put on the side and mount an offset red dot? I could cut up the rails I have but I'd rather buy a section long enough to go between two holes. Well, probably another of the same too, to mount a light on the left as well.
