my older pl16 acted up at the range. would fire 1 or 2 rounds then pull the trigger and the hammer would fall but gun didnt fire. no firing pin strike on primer. cycled a nother round in and would fire that round and it chammberd the next round and hammer fell but no fire again. i ordered a new firing pin will try it first b4 sending it to kel tec. anyone no what is going on with it

it sounds like the bolt coming back isn't preparing for the next shot. I can think of several possible reasons:
- gun is dirty
- ammo is too weak
- problems in recoil system not allowing bolt to go fully back under normal operation
- something is worn out in there
- firing pin chamber is dirty/sticky (this seems unlikely. Most often these types of failures lead to a FP that is stuck "out" and leads to full auto firing that can't be stopped until ammo runs out. It has to be stuck BAD to not move forward under hammer strike).

I would give it a really good cleaning, try another brand of ammo, and if it still is not working, send it home.

Sounds like bolt's not going all the way forward.

When was rifle last cleaned?

Like Steve912 said my first thought was bolt not going completely forward. What mag are you using? Good luck with it!!

Add my vote for the likelihood of the bolt not going quite all the way forward. A 9mm cleaning brush can be used to clean a .223 chamber. That's an easy matter to overlook when cleaning a .223 firearm.

You said that the PLR-16 is clean, so I assume the firing pin channel isn't dirty, and the cam pin is moving freely. You should be able to tilt the assembled bolt carrier group and the bolt should move freely back and forth inside the bolt carrier with only gravity in +/-45 degrees of tilt or less.

thanks all i cleaned the firing pin bolt hole put new firing pin in and no more problems 90 rounds no problems the firing pin was worn some thanks all for the help
