Hi All,

I need help with fitting an extract on a Para Ordinance slide. I'm helping with a 1911 build and the extractor is causing a problem. Para used the same slide for 9mm, 38 Super, 40S&W, and 10mm. I bought a 9mm extractor but I can't seem to get it to work for 9mm. I broke one into last night trying to bend it enough to hold a 9mm. Any suggestions? This is my very first 1911 build and I have the entire gun completed except for the extractor.

Is the slide old enough to have originally used the Para Power Extractor? Did you get the extractor you are trying to install from Para or is it a standard generic 1911 replacement?

sounds like a part mix up. It should fit and be close to working without much effort.

It came with a standard 80 series extractor for 40S&W. I tried a standard 9mm and it wouldn't work. I bought a Weigand EAT to try and i broke the new extractor. I'm going to buy one from EGW to try. If that doesn't work i guess I'm going to have have a gunsmith do it.

The same slide for 9mm and 10mm...is there some kind of breech face insert, to get the primers centered over the firing pin (and correct extractor contact)?

No, this practice has been used by several 1911 makers over the years from Para to Kimber.
