p3AT hammer issue

Posted this on another forum too...

Well, picked up a new P3AT and took it out today. No FTEs but a weird hammer issue.

My Dad was slowly creeping the trigger back, and it seemed to reset before doing a full hammer strike on the pin. Think of it like a decocker on a KelTec. I was able to recreate the problem as well. When slowly pulling it back, the hammer would come forward but not fire the round. No sign of a pin strike on the primer either.

I normally pull the trigger back to the "almost firing" position, then pull the trigger fully and it fires every time, but this kinda bugged me and my Dad was saying "I don't like that Kel Tec."

What is up with that? Send back to KelTec?

i would give keltec a call ....

i never thougth i would own a keltec but the the right circumstances showed presented themselvers and
i own one...... i have really grown to like mine
never and issue... no "fluff n buff" i find it as reliable as my glock 19.
Yeah this one had no fluff and buff either and it happily went through 50 rounds with no jams or FTEs. Just that odd hammer issue on light trigger pulls.

I emailed KelTec, maybe I should just call.

You'll get a quicker answer by calling. They aren't usually very quick about answering emails.
I emailed them a warranty question one evening last week and their answer came the next morning. Maybe I just hit their read cycle right. :)
Yeah they responded this morning!

Now, the problem is...it is a $250 handgun, and shipping overnight via FEDEX is $50! I have shipped to FFLs via USPS, can I do that back to KelTec? Or does it have to be UPS or FEDEX?

Thanks.
KelTec just said it has to be overnighted...but they said depending on the issue they may reimburse. I hate paying $50 for a $250 gun, but maybe I'll just do it.
There is info on this board on how to ship a handgun back to the manufacturer for much less than $50. It does not have to go overnight and you do not have to inform the shipper what is in the package.

Too late. DOH!
