Hello friends,

Trying to remove the extractor screw from my second gen P3AT to get the firing pin and spring out. Bought Wolff extra power spring kit and want to polish the firing pin and channel before installing them. Problem is I can't get the extractor screw loose!?! I thought it was the star pattern T10 size, which seemed to fit the tightest, but I broke 2 different tips off trying to unscrew the darn thing. Am I using the wrong size bit, or what? (They were both Skil brand hardware store bits, not gunsmithing bits if there is such a thing). Any tips before I start searching for a possibly stronger or better quality material bit(s).:confused: I know they are supposed to be locktite coated when installed, but any tips on how to break em free? Soak the slide in something maybe??

PS: I'm trying the Wolff extra power firing pin and slide recoil springs because I'm using premium self defense loads in this new gun and don't want to deal with the whole "well that brand has a hard primer" discussion again. It is supposedly a replacement gun for one which got sent back for warranty 3 times for light primer strikes on 7 different brands of ammo... I did a full fluff & buff on this new one but want to change springs before wasting ANOTHER $30 and half a day visiting the range to try it out. (I can't drive so I have to go with someone else). No flames please :)

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful Memorial day weekend.

Warmest regards,
Scott in Sunny Florida

The extractor screw doesn't take an ordinary Torx bit...it's a #10 Torx PLUS bit (kind of hard to find). And the threadlocker used usually needs heat to be applied to loosen the screw.

Your new pistol may still be picky with ammo...even after new springs are installed.

As haugrdr says, you need a #10 Torx Plus, not an ordinary Torx driver. You can find them around the web, such as here:

https://store.snapon.com/TORX-Plus-...Bit-Socket-Driver-TORX-Plus-10IP-P663313.aspx

Also, since Kel Tec uses a thread locker on the screw, you will need to heat it before trying to remove, or you could damage the screw/strip the head, or damage the slide threads. Use the tip of soldering iron, held against the screw head for a couple of minutes to soften the thread locker before trying to turn the screw. They are difficult to get out in best of times, but with the right tool and heat, likely it will come loose.
