Purchased from a friend whom fired two mags through it (so he says lol).
Serial # is K9Q**

After firing over 20 rounds the slide begins to stick. It continues to get harder and harder to "rack" by hand until it sticks completely. It cycles all ammo without any problems until it sticks to hard to function. After removing the pin to disassemble I have to bump slide w/ a rubber mallet to remove. After several attempts it reassembles and slide functions properly.
As if guide rod/springs are falling out of place and hindering slide function. ??? Sending back to KT in the am. Curious if anyone else has seen this and what the problem might be. I like the small profile of this weapon and would hate to not be able to carry due to lack of confidence.

Any ideas. Used search function but did not get anything -
Thanks

Re: P3AT 2nd Gen Slide sticks and locks after 30-5

welcome to KTOG

first would be using grease on the rails, hammer face and barrel lug.

next would be inspect the right rail where the extractor/spent cases cause a ding.  cut that coner down

also look where the extractor screw tapping breaks through the bottom of the slide and remove any torn metal

there are several links in the FAQ/VIP sticky that might help

JFB,

Are you referencing the "buttonhead" (per the manual) aka extractor screw ? Looking to see where threads enter and don't. Am I looking in the wrong place ?

FYI - buffed off the other area and 90% improvement in action smoothness.

I can not find a previous photo posted showing where the extractor screw breaks through on the underside of the slide. I'm sure if you had a serious problem there, the frame rail would be scarred.

But you still show look and see. the location is, where the hole for the button head screww would come out if drilled to deep

another wear area that you can look at for improvement is the head of the recoil rod. Most, if not all, the barrel tipping down during recoil slides on the head and wears a slight cresent. I ensure I place that wear area back so as not to keep having to rub away metal from the recoil rod head

really can't tell from pic, but that amount of grip buldge looks like it keep the assemblt pin from going in.

shooting with the end of the assembly pin not fully seated will ruin the frame.  It looks like the anodizing around that hole is pretty beaten up

did your manual show using two fingers on each side of the pin when pulling?

Looks like the assembly pin retainer spring has popped up causing the bulge. Mine did that once when I didn't pinch the grip while remove the pin. I just gently (using a small flat blade screwdriver) pushed it back into place.

Worked for me.

But, I didn't try to shoot it before pushing the spring back in. :-/

Weapon home as of today. New frame (same serial), new grips, new internal parts, polished feed ramp.
Have a couple of boxes of WWB and off to the range this morning. AAR in 6 hours.

400 rounds of various ammo with out a glitch - no failure to feed/eject.
minimal lub with the exception of a few drops prior to firing and a field strip and
wipe down at 250 rounds, a few more drops on contact points.
I would now trust this piece. Keltec

250 rounds Win White Box
100 rounds Double Tap 95 gr controlled expansion
50 rounds cheap reloads

Good to go. Great service.

After factory check-up reliability

Second day home

just put 400 more rounds thru the returned P3AT

350 Win White Box
50 Double Tap 95 gr controlled expansion

In two days 800 rounds with out doing anything other than going bang when I pulled the trigger.
Again, good work Keltec I can put this in my comp-tac neck holster and use for it's original purpose
without concern.

Re: P3AT 2nd Gen Slide sticks and locks after 30-5

Was shooting three magazines between each string of fire with a Glock 17. Lucky for me I walked in a Walmart that had a load of 100 rd boxes of WWB just in, while the weapon was at Keltec for repairs.

Hands are a bit calloused already, I can't tell, except for one spot that seemed to blister after the Double Tap LOL :'(....massive difference in felt recoil from the Winchester White Box.

Good Shooting

I don't know which is more impressive ... that the P-3AT Ate 800 rounds without a problem or that someone actually HAD 800 rounds of .380 to fire ;D
