So, I'm not new to Keltec, I'm long time fan and have previously owned an RFB and PF9. I've handled the Gen 1 Sub2K's but haven't owned or shot one yet. This morning I ran across a no reserve auction for a new Gen 2 on GB. And thought, why not! I got the .40 S&W Beretta mag version, maybe this is the least desirable version to own? Idk.. But I think I got a pretty good deal!

Anyways, I'm trying to figure out some budget mods to do on this little guy when it comes in. I've checked out RLP and might do the forend, just because it rotates and allows to keep optics on the gun while folded. But they're $150. I know that's really not that much for a quality mod. I might do it, but that's half of what I paid for the gun. I'd like to find some other mods I can do in the mean time. Is there a recommended trigger upgrade? Interested in any and all mods. Any ideas? Thanks!

WELCOME aboard, chiefmd :)
I've installed two after-market triggers in my Gen2 9mm; by far, the best are manufactured by Performance Services. They are one of the sponsors here @ KTOG. If you do a search on this site, there are many threads about trigger replacement. Toss-out any questions you may have & you'll get an answer. Enjoy the site & thanks for joining us!

Welcome to KTOG!

Plus 1 to the above.

Personally, I think you would have better luck all around...if you put 2-300 rounds thru it and make sure it's broken in and shooting/feeding correctly before doing any mods to it.

YMMV.

I'll definitely get some rounds down range before I spend any money on mods.
I was just wondering what some of the common, or recommended mods were.
I love tinkering with firearms, and find modding, or installing upgraded parts a fun thing to do.
Thanks for the warm welcomes!

I feel the way you modify your sub2000 should be dependent upon how you plan to use it. There are a bunch of great mods that members have done here, but the mods may support a specific use better than other uses. Have you considered how you want to use the gun? Fun and plinking at the range, home self defense or vehicle gun? In my opinion, I would setup my sub2000 differently for each application.

I bought it with the vehicle / SHTF gun in mind.
Are there any other options besides the RLP forend that will allow you to somehow mount an optic and still be able to fold the gun up?

EDIT: Well, I found the Midwest Industries Red dot mount.. While I do like the idea of keeping the factory forend, because I like the way it looks.. Before I spend $100 on the mount and have a red dot sitting 3 inches higher than normal.. I think I'd rather go with the RLP forend.

The heavy bolt is a good upgrade, and the rest depends on if your particular gun has the new & improved trigger, and the new & improved front sight. This recoil pad is also a nice addition.

As for the optic height, I have found that I need it sitting higher than most think is required.
I am using an EOTech with a built-in 7mm riser mounted on a 5/8" riser. It doesn't fold all the way, but it does fold enough for my needs.

As with ARs, Sub2000s need optics mounted fairly high because there's essentially zero stock drop.

There's a thread here where a few people have had problems with the MI mount. I'm planning on doing a fixed mount, offset to the right.

Chiefmd,

I have my sub2000 setup as a truck gun / get home gun. Very minimal setup with a 5.11 Tactical 4 banger bag, 2 33 round mags, 1 17 round mag, and some small items like a headlamp, whistle, and first aid items. Here are some pics of the bag as it might fit your application. I hope it helps.
