I finally pulled the trigger on a RFB which has been at a local dealer for about a year. He dropped the price to $1299 so I had to take it home. I picked up a Steiner P4xi 1x4 illuminated scope for $400 (another great deal) and mounded it in a Burris P.E.P.R fixed mount.
I shot a variety of ammo, Wolf 145 grain, Herters (Tula) 150 grain, Black Hills 168 match, Hornady TAP 168, and Hornady Zombie Max 168.
Initially gas setting with the 145 grain was b+4 and b+10 for the 168. After about 100 rounds I had to open the gas to +6 for the russian stuff. I assume it broke in a little and needed less gas.
50 yard sight in, shooting over a back pack produced a 1" group with the 145 grain pills. I moved back to 100 yards and fired three shots from each brand of ammo and saw groups Around 2". The Black Hills match had two bullets in a 1/2" group with the third round no where to be found. I don't know if it was over the top of one of the first rounds or not. I shot a second 5 shot group from this box, and had one center punch on the 1" dot, and the remaining four rounds were in a 1.5" group 5" below it!
Subsequent shooting began to show vertical stringing. When I got home I found the front rail screw was loose which could had caused shift in poi. I will attempt further accuracy testing with the 168 black hills fodder, as well as some 175 black hills match to see what sort of accuracy we can achieve with this setup. I know the optic will be a limiting factor, and may try a higher magnification optic if I find a round which the gun really likes.
So far the gun has been very reliable (when gas is set properly), real world accurate, and relatively low recoil for a .308. I'm glad I made the purchase and am anxious to see what potential this rifle has!
