Well, after 4 months of layaway, I finally got to pick it up and today, took it out for some initial shooting. I had a TRS-25 attached to a Ruger Mark III that I decided to have a go with on this first time out. I managed to find the riser that came with the sight and got it all set up on the CMR.

I have a variety of ammo for the CMR-30 but this time out I shot 50 rnds of 40 gr. CCI Maxi-Mag HP, 50 Rnds of 40 gr. Maxi-Mag TMJ, and 20 Rnds of Winchester Varmint HV with the 30 grain V-max poly tip bullets.

First 3 shots were from a rest at 50 yards at a target on a piece of cardboard that was about 18 inches by 24 inches and all three shots missed the paper, to be expected I guess when you consider the RDS had just been thrown on there. Moved up to about 20 yards and finally got some rounds on paper. I dialed it in so I was hitting the center of what I was aiming at and then moved back to 50 yards, on the bench, and...promptly missed the paper entirely again. This situation repeated until I finally just gave up and went to the open sights.

Firing with open sights was a revelation compared to whatever was going on with the RDS. The hits were all close enough to point of aim that I did not feel compelled to change them at the moment. Reasonably accurate, and it did not have a single hiccup in the first 70 or so rounds, first firing through the box of CCI TMJ rounds, then moving to the HP rounds.

Up to this point I had been loading 20 rounds at a time in the mags. So, I decided to test the theory that it will have issues when fully loaded. Oddly enough, I forgot to put the magazine in the gun at this point and went to release the slide. Slide would not release, then I realized there was no mag in the gun. I Put a magazine in it, tried to release the slide and no go. I took the magazine out and lowered the gun and then suddenly the slide slammed forward.

I replaced the magazine and fired the first round, then experienced my first FTF, on a full magazine. All the rounds after that fired just fine.

Next up, I fired 20 of the Winchester Varmint HV rounds. I experienced one FTF, on the second round of this ammo, then the rest fired fine.

The gun showed good accuracy and acceptable reliability with 3 different types of ammo, so far. Upon further inspection and just as I suspected and expected, the bolt hold open thingy is broken. Yay. I was really hoping mine was built after this issue had been fixed. I guess that is what I get for violating my self imposed ban on Kel-Tec purchases.

I feel your pain:D some of the coolest firearms designs in the world, if only they could get a functioning QC dept up and running. Having to send a new gun back to the factory is not a plus no matter how nicely they talk to you on the phone. So far my experience is one functions as advertised sub2000, one cool but temperamental gun that could never be counted on in a pinch KSG and one total fail Grendal 30.....Yet the CMR still tempts me. If only you could know the day of the week the gun was made, "I'll take a Wednesday afternoon gun please.";)

I currently own a Kel Tec PF9 and a CMR30. I have shot both a few times and find that I can't hit the side of a barn yet with them. I don't have access to a firing range so it's just shooting out my back yard once in a while (I have a cornfield in my back yard so if I shoot low the rounds go safely into the ground). I need to get a laser to mount onto the CMR30 to get a rough sighting in. The PF9 will be a point blank weapon. I have a few hundred rounds for each so I think I am ready for zombie apocalypse or the next SHTF event.

Interesting about the CMR, mine was hitting almost dead on at 50 yards with the stock sights, just a little low. It may have done even better but it turns out that I was holding it in a manner that my eyes were too close to the sights but didn't realize that till later. I would have kept shooting but when I accidentally realized how much I had just spent sending lead down range, between the CMR and my two 30-06's, I decided to stop. Hopefully you get yours dialed in, it is a pretty fun shooter. It shoots just fine with the broken bolt hold too.

I sent my back to Keltec twice for broken bolt catch. Got it back about 2 weeks ago with an improved bolt catch. Its about twice as thick as first 2. So far it has been doing the job. So they seem to have a fix for broken bolt catch. Took about 7 weeks turnaround. Be sure to include shipping fee invoice and they will send you check for shipping.

So, not really thrilled with the customer service via online form. They have an option to submit a ticket for service. It asks for a bunch of info, like model and serial number, name, address etc. So, I filled that out and sent it. In response, the person responding asked me to just fill out some info and email it to a particular email. It was the same info i had already submitted and the email seems to be for the person that said I should fill out the info and send it to the email! Kinda wishing I had opted for the Sub 2000 Gen 2 instead. Or another Glock.

With the gun apart I noticed some interesting wear already. One area was the detents for the multi-position stock. They have wear already even though I have only had the gun for three or so days. Apparently it is beneficial to depress the release lever whenever moving the stock in or out, rather then letting it ratchet out.

Also, where the shells come out and hit the gun on the way out, there are wear marks already. While this may not be a big deal, It has already shown up after only 120 rounds of use.

I would call them about issues with the gun but I was under the impression they were moving to doing it all online rather than by phone.

From what I have been reading about the CMR, it seems that it would be in my best interest to wait a few more years before getting one. After they get the kinks worked out, it should be a good gun. I have lost track of how many years I have been waiting for this gun. All good things come to those that wait, or something like that.

I would agree with you, but I don't think you would have to wait a few years. I suspect that ones that roll off the line today are in pretty good shape, thanks to Kel-Tec's crack team of gun quality control and reliability testers, otherwise known as CUSTOMERS! Not that i'm bitter or anything...

I would not wait too long. Depending on who wins in November, we may see prices skyrocket again. that's the reason I went ahead and got one.

Finally got the CMR off to KT. After submittng my info twice, I was informed to pack it up with a copy of the sales receipt, as well as a paper giving all the info I have given twice already. Fedex emailed me a label pre-paid by KT for shipping. I put it all in an unlabeled box from the local gun shop and sent it off. Now the wait begins! Time to collect more ammo I guess.
