Well been about 22 months since I posted so figured about time. Ordered a Canik TP9SF Desert Tan in 9mm. Received it Saturday at lunch time and started putting it through the paces between the rains. Lots of rain here in Louisiana past couple of weeks. Anyway researched a lot on this one and waited until the SF came out without the decocker and safety. Between my sons and I got about 200 rounds thru it so far. No cleaning just started right out of the case. No issues at all. Best trigger out of the box I've had. Very accurate and recoil allows for quick follow up shots. 2-18 round mags, retention holster, 2nd back strap, load assister, and some cleaning brushes in the plastic case. This one is a keeper for sure. Wont replace my S&W Shield as my carry piece, and still love my Springfield XDs. But if you know someone looking for a nice piece at $349.00 its well worth it IMHO. Sorry couldn't get the wife out with her camera with all the rain for photos. Will try to follow up with some.

Part of me wants one for I-dunno-what, and part of me says, "Nahhhh, it's huge and it's Turkish - you don't want to buy ANOTHER gun that sponsors a country like that, do you?" (My Regent R00S being the other, but I've done too much to it and have grown too attached to it to dispose of it. )

It's a pretty good gun for what it is, but it doesn't really do anything or fulfill and needs/wants that aren't already covered 3 times over by my other pistols. I guess if you're in the market for a full-size, duty-type pistol like a Glock 17, M&P, XDM, P320, or SR9/Ruger American, then this would be a good option for something that works well and costs less than all of the aforementioned pistols. Otherwise ... ehhhhhhh, dunno.

Man, I wish they offered a compact version, though...

Well this was one of those ' I just want it things'. No particular need to fill. But after the way it has performed glad I got it. Just one more horse in the stable.

I remember a gun that was sold by Academy Sports some years back that was made in Turkey. It was called the Sarsilmaz 9 mm.

Later I got a gun sold/imported by American Tactical that looked much the same and was made in Turkey. Don't remember if it had name or model #. It was a very large pistol that loosely resembled a CZ-75, but WAY bigger and held something like 19 or 20 rounds in the magazine. I got it in a swap. I was really impressed with the quality and reliability. The finish was o.k. It was just really big. Very accurate too.

Is that the same gun that is now sold as the Canik?

Well last 20 rounds before first cleaning. Ran some cheap Federal Aluminum case thru it and it ate it fine. 15 yards free hand and you can tell where I didn't do my job. Eyes and steady hand aren't what they used to be. It is a tack driver for sure if you do your part.

I'm actually considering one for carry. To replace my p11, Taurus p111g2 or mp9c. At my age and living in Fla it's loose clothing all the way. With an oversize tee shirt I could conceal a shotgun. LOL. I'm always in favor of more fire power. 12 rounds is the least I will carry. Unless I occasionally slip my p3at into my pocket or for bu. I've even carried my Taurus pt92 iwb at times. And that IS a big gun.

A thought just crossed my mind. A dangerous thing I know. LOL. But I am concerned with who I support in the middle east fiasco. Is Turkey a good guy or bad guy? I know when it comes to money loyalties are put aside. Companies have traded with the enemy in the past. But I don't want to support anything detrimental to our troops. Even in a round about way.

Interesting question. Turkey is going after ISIS, but they are also going after the U.S.-supported Kurds and Syrian revolutionaries.

Really, there are enough pistols made in the USA - or at least made in countries not iffy enough to make me question the nature their motives - that are of sufficient or greater quality at an equivalent price point that it's not really worth it to bother with the Canik pistols. Yes, the Canik pistols are decent in terms of quality, but as others have mentioned, Turkey is kind of shady in terms of global politics and such, and the fact that they have some loose ties to terrorism is, in itself, reason enough for me to avoid tossing any (more) money their way.

I figure the Ruger SR9E is a pretty close equivalent, for example, in terms of price, size, and performance. The Smith & Wesson SD9VE is also around the same price point, and it's perfectly functional, but to be honest the trigger is nowhere near as good. Others like the Ruger American Pistol, Smith & Wesson M&P9, Sig Sauer P320/P250, Beretta M9 / 92FS / PX4 Storm are worthwhile alternatives, although they're a bit more expensive. And if you consider other foreign options, there's the Tanfoglio (EAA) Witness lineup, the FNX and FNS pistols, Springfield XDM's, and of course Glocks, among others, and none of those are made in countries whose governments are potentially sponsoring (or are directly comprised of) terrorists and other people that hate our guts.

I might've gotten some of those countries-of-origin mixed up (not sure exactly where Beretta, Sig, and FN make their stuff nowadays), but the idea's still generally the same.

Oh well will steer clear of the politics and stay on message. This is the first handgun I have purchased that is Desert Tan. Found out during the first cleaning, other than the Barrel sure could tell where the cleaning attention needed to be focused on. The powder residue really stood out.

We started carrying these in the PX early this year. They have always sold well and I wanted one. In tan. Unfortunately it's not in the cards for now. Nice catch Fireguy.

Hmm carried in the Army PX (must have been vetted by someone). Well tells me a lot. Not a big fan on the first ones with decocker, safety and trigger. Think they got this one right. Never wanted a decocker or safety on self defense handguns. Just my opinion.

If I traded for it does that count as being a hypocrite? I could not resist the offer. Like new with the whole package and 2 xtra mags. Plus 200 rounds of fmj. And and xtra iwb soft holster with mag pocket. I gave up my sw mp9c.He was going to use for conceal carry but changed his mind. I have no problem with it wearing an oversized tee. The inch more in grip length is a non issue the way I dress. Thickness about the same as the mp9c. Being originally a revolver guy striker triggers never seem so bad to me but I admit this one is smooth. Especially sa. Have to get to the range now and test her out. Fireguy, you made a good choice. By the way mine is the tp9v2.

Fez let us know how you like it. No hypocrite in my book. I have been around for a while and love to keep a eye out for the newer things on the market that are a good quality and don't break the bank. I own many of the major brands and I don't worry about filling needs. Heck I just wanted the thing and it sure has not disappointed. Matter a fact shot it yesterday after a session with my S&W Shield (primary carry piece) that I hadn't shot for a while. Your going to love that trigger.
Heck I remember when I carried a Ruger P345 so it sounds like our attire is on the same lines.
