Muffler belt. Cheap, not visible, but costs $300 to install accordingy to ne'er-do-well car repair outfits...

LOL, that reminds of muffler bearings. That was what the new kid at the gas station was sent to the parts store to pick up.

That was back when gas stations still worked on cars.

If I had only known then what I know now I'd have me a serious stash of type-metal for boolit casting.

I had a 72 Dodge Coronet in the late 80's. Was driving the family out to sw Pa from NJ to visit the mother-in-law. A muffler hanger broke and the muffler was hanging. Cut a length of wire from an old fence along the hiway. Looped it around the flange on the muffler then up the side of the rear door and looped around the door handle. Had few hundred miles to go and it held up all the way.

Perhaps we should ambiguously just call this part "the nut that holds the wheel."

How about the little engine valve stem locks? A tiny wedge shaped piece of steel. Lose even one and you drop an exhaust or intake valve down into the combustion chamber where it gets beat on by the piston until it wedges in and locks up the engine, or busts the piston and you start oil-fogging the neighborhood. I just looked up a set for an 8 cylinder engine, 32 clips for $9.99. Less than 50 cents each, and lose even one and you are screwed.

I have seen some pretty exciting police chase videos where the perp no longer even has a tire on the rim and is doing a lot more than 5mph!
