Well I picked up a near mint condition Gen1 today. I don't think it was ever shot. It was produced in 04 but must have sat in a box ever since.

So here are a few questions. It the Gen1 still a good firearm or should I sell it a buy a new Gen2? Whats the best ammo to keep in it for concealed carry. Does the belt clip from kel tec work very good for IWB carry? And lastly should I pick up some cheap ammo to run through it to break it in, if so how many rounds?

Thanks in advance

I have a Belt clip on my P3AT works for me Some people worry about tripping the trigger I think that near impossible . I use Corbon for carry and S&B mostly for shooting .

Clean it lube it and shoot couple hundred rounds. For you to get used to the pistol .

How many rounds to shoot of SD . That up to you

I have a Gen1 P32 and a Gen2 P3AT. ..many of us prefer the Gen1...including me. Just a tad smaller and lighter. And just plain looks better.

Thanks Guys. I agree with you the Gen1 looks better. I just picked up 200 rounds of ammo, Im going to try and hit the range this weekend and see how it does. After field stripping the Keltec I can see no signs of this gun ever being shot? Its like new, not even a spec of dirt. I think I scored at $185 out the door

On a new Gen1 P3AT (and P32), one thing to check for is the "creeping takedown pin" problem, where the takedown pin comes out slightly with each shot, eventually creating a dangerous condition if it's not pushed back in after every few shots. If the pin does creep out, I would suggest contacting Kel-Tec for a new one. They sent me a new pin in 2004 (free of charge), and it's worked like a charm since. No need to send the gun in for repair; just replace the pin.
