MI mount - Long Term Use

Fellow S2K owners, who has been using the MI mount the longest?

How is it holding up to actual use & abuse?

Feedback: Likes, Dislikes, Changes you would recommend.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I never got to use mine. When I installed the MI mount, I noticed there was play in the left to right direction, and it didn't snap to a solid center. You could push it one way or the other with your finger, and it would just stay there. I'd bet the slop amounted to about 1 ft at 100 yards, and I didn't bother trying to shoot it since it seemed clearly defective. One other person mentioned this as well, and I just figured they had a bad batch, or a few slipped through QC.

I tried several times to contact MI using their contact form, but never got a reply. I finally called, and they were helpful, but didn't seem to think it was bad. They said to send it back and they'd take a look, so I shipped it back with a letter describing the issue. I was sure it was just a one-off defect, and I asked them to send a new one if they agreed it wasn't normal, or refund the order if they considered that as good as it gets.

It's been almost 2 weeks, and I haven't heard a word, but I just checked my credit card account online and I see that they credited my account a few days after they received it. They certainly don't get any points for communication.

I'll be really interested to hear if other people are seeing the same problem. The design should work, but mine appeared to be machined slightly off, and I was sure they would just send me a good one, but I don't know if they just didn't want to bother with it, or if they're all like that. It's a pity, because I was counting on their mount when I bought the rifle, so now I'll have to come up with a new plan.

Cheers,
Rusty

I haven't handled one yet, but I did see a video where one shoots loose during a 3 gun match. The shooter went off to the side and tightened a screw, the optic was just flopping around. I don't remember if he returned to action, or not.

Im glad I read this. Thanks for posting. I have a gen2 and it has turned out to be one of my favorite guns. To be what it is I am impressed with the way it groups, shoots, feels and defiantly like the looks of the gen2 over the gen 1. Which in lays my problem. I changed out the awesome looking hand gaurd for the red lion precision so I could mount a red dot and every since I am a little torn on my decision because I really liked the looks of the gen2 just the way it was. So I thought about doing a QD mount but taking the red dot off everytime I want to fold it just seems to defeat the main purpose for this gun. So I saw this and was getting ready to order it when I saw this write up. Again. Thanks.
BTW...The red lion has really grown on me as far as the over all looks of the gun. Not to mention the confidence of knowing it aluminum and will not wear out causing any slop of accessories, especially optics

I am chasing down a 'won't hold zero' issue with my Gen 2 right now.

I have already changed out the dot ( Holosun 403GL) with a factory replacement.
My 1st Holosun 403gL elevation adjuster stopped working.

Now every range visit requires a zero reset.

Yesterday, I got rid of the MI mount, flattened the top pic rail, installed directly to the factory forearm. Will post results.

If it turns out the MI mount is the issue, I will switch to a quick release as I have already used the 45 degree option and prefer a high mounted dot.

I am about sure I am dealing with some of this same issue with my Holosun 403b. I have not tested it enough at this time to say for sure but after reading several different threads on different forums I am thinking my elevation adjustment screw may not be working. When I 1st mounted the optic and shot 60 rounds I didn't have to really do any adjustments. Was hitting wind age perfectly but 2" low at 25-30 yards. I turned the elevation up a total of 1 and 1/2 turn but did notice any change. I was strapped for time but I will let you know what I find out. I plan on trying to fool with it a little more this weekend.

I have had one for a few months, I shoot it every week at a uspsa single stage match. It will not hold zero. It does not fit solid into the mlock slot, so all of the holding power comes from tightening the two screws, which have very little surface area. I do not know if that is the problem, it may be the primary arms red dot. I even tool it apart and cleaned the threads with acetone and put it back together with lock tite, and it still will not hold zero, and I only need it to be accurate at 20 yards. I think it can be desiged so there is a lot more surface area in contact with the rail, maybe that would help. I am about to give up and go with a QD mount, and just forget about folding it. I do like the gun, it is light and perfect for running around a small course.

Follow up:

Only 1 range re-visit so far but here are the results:

Eliminated the MI mount.

Installed Holosun 403GL dot directly on flattened rail - mounting pin is in slot #2 closest to butt of gun. Rails needed to be flattened as they look a little like this '/\' from the factory. I used a file and sandpaper. Will buff out later to restore factory appearance.

Zero'd in on Sunday night, folded it best I could and carried it in a backpack in rear of the Yukon until Monday when it was pulled out and tested again.

Perfect zero. 1st time that has happened in a while. My MI mount was from batch #2 from MI.

Will test a couple more times before making my phone call to MI.
Hopefully if it comes to that, they will trade me for their quick release T1 mount.

I did find that the height of the MI mount is great. Much better than the 1/3 lower co-witness mount I am using out of the Holosun box.

Note: I also have a 403A dot that has been great.

Will a glock 17 G4 magazine fit my kel tec sub 2000 gen 2?
I don't know what this has to do with a red dot mount, but yes. One of the nice things about Glocks is they don't obsolete previous versions capabilities. All generations of Glock magazines will still fit in all designated Glock magazine versions.

I am shipping my mount back in exchange for a quick release version.
I liked the idea of the folding mount, but could not get it to hold zero reliably.

It did great for a couple months then started having issues. Although it feels very snug and snaps back into position, the position stop must not be up to the task of holding zero.

I could not get mine to hold zero. It wobbled pretty easily. I called MI and they told me to send as it could not be tightened since they glue the screw. I sent it back and they basically lost it. After a month of emailing and calling, I finally got someone who could help and sent me a replacement. I'm sad to say that the replacement wobbles as well. Not as bad as the original, but still think it will be an issue over the long haul. I'm skeptical!

I received my exchanged mount. I went with MI's quick release 1/3 co-witness mount. Have not shot it yet, but it is installed and seems really nice. The quick release mechanism appears to be well made. Will report back after a range trip tomorrow.

Haven't seen the mount in person but why would you guys think a polymer rail would hold zero for an optic? I seriously think that is the root of your problems
I agree completely. I have worked on my rail as well. From flattening to adding various shims to keep it solid. I just need a combat zero to be content.

With the folding mount, I could not keep it on a 8" plate at 20 yards.
