Hey guys im new here,
I just bought a Sub 2K Glock 9mm version and was wondering about a quad rail or some way to attach a red dot. Ive seen the pics posted in the sticky and see some good ideas using the factory foregrip and barrel mount rail pieces. I like this method seems chep and easy with some slight cutting on the factory foregrip. But I was wondering why wouldent an aftermarket quad rail built for an AR work? I dont understand how the quad rail on an AR mounts so maybe I am way in the wrong ball park here but thats why I am asking here lol. Also i was wondering about a way to fold the rear sight down while the gun is open? I dont want to remove it incase of dead batteries or whatever could happen to the optic but i would think it would get in the way a bit when it came to the red dot. I realize you can "Co-wittness" the red dot with the factory sights but idk if you are going to take the time to peep through the hole then why not just use factory...or glue a red truglow rod to the top of the front sight post lol same thing as red dot IMO

Making an aftermarket AR quad rail fit will end up costing you more in total than just buying either the Kel-tec or Red Lion quad rail would. It has been done a couple times, and is presented in the Sub Porn Pic thread.

A properly fitted red dot will co-witness with your factory sights showing the dot in the lower 1/4 - 1/3 of your sight window. This will allow you to slightly raise your head above your fixed sights, and the dot will rise with your eye level without affecting Point of Impact (POI). The original red dots made for AR's in the 90's were made this way because the AR-15 only had the option of fixed sights back then. Co-witnessing the sight through and with your fixed sights saves ammo, because once you have the dot centered on top of your front sight post with your proper sight picture you have basically zeroed it without taking a shot. The Trijicon reflex sight in the Space ModulatOr (Post #1 Sub Porn) literally has the deck just about 1/8" below the AR sights. Most of the window is well above them. Just by happenstance, the Kel-tec quad rail has the same height dimensions in relation to the fixed sights as an AR. So an AR height red dot will co-witness with the Sub sights quite nicely, if you use the Kel-tec quad.
