I cant edit the title. Sorry. I miss spelled integrate.

I am starting a project to redesign and integrate simple electronics into the slide to give magazine round count.

My interest is just to play around with integrating to improve.

I've watched the KSG and people struggle with them for years now. And having my own i have never understood why people struggle with it.

Its a simple machine.
Double feeding or no loading or most the issues i have seen are from not understanding the mechanics of the ksg and trying to fire it like an AR15 or some semi auto rather then the powerful machine it is. 15 rounds of 1oz steel slugs at nearly 1000mi an hr. Thats a tank in the right case. And to me. I trust it first. And can always switch to others as needed. Or travel in a pack.

Anyways.

Granted. There are other devices like the AR platforms that garnish all the hype but they've been around for a generation. So they've got the hype. Who cares? What i want is improvement and intergration of better technology. Thats just the way i think.

So. This is my documentation of integrating a simple hal-effect sensor system to display the staus of your tubes based upon 2-3/4" shells.

I will post my design work and progress and seek input. I am designing a product for myself. But. As it becomes complete. It maybe a product for others.

I will be machining the integrated slides from aluminum and incorporating a few other things directly into that as well.

Very cool idea. I like the idea of a round counter ever since HALO Combat Evolved came out. I like being able to look at the spot where there would normally be a red dot sight on my assault rifle, and see that I still had 43/60 rounds. If it were possible to power such a circuit from a coin cell for a decade, make it totally water, oil, and dust proof, and reliable to the point that one never needed worry about how many rounds were in each tube, I would be all over that.

But... I think it would be just as easy to build a device that automatically selects the next tube when you empty the first, and infinitely more convenient.

Go ahead, but realize that what you're working on is at best a hobby, and that human interface design, electro-mechanical integration, and optimization are an unending pursuit, only mastered by the likes of Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark.

Let fly the dogs of war.

Rough examples. https://youtu.be/7cfOukXM214 youtube halleffect sensors.

Basically. I just am looking for general input.

I have requested parts files in .step and .iges from kel-tec but we'll see if they give me a response. Otherwise i'll just laser scan it.

I have designed and built large complex machines. And went to college for robotics. But input helps.

I just feel there are all kinds of guys who buy stuff but not as many who build, and i havent found many accessories for the KSG that i want so i guess i am going to start redesigning and designing what i want.

The points of reference for the electronics will be a new pt# 139(pump buffer) which will be home. It needs to have two magnets embedded to give the home signal.

Two new pt# 219 & 218 (forend) slides machined from alum. Which will have the electronics embedded. Each will be their own unit. Left / right.

And two new machined or retrofit pt# 311 (mag follower)

The processing is simple. As the mag follower is pushed down the tube it stops at defined points. These points will have a sensor above it. They register their count of the mag follower. As the slide is thrown back. And returned to home at which point the side relocates home, then reupdates the count and changes LED's that will be lit. I think it would be better to use LED's rather then a 7 segment display. I want to use a variable low voltage to keep the power draw down. I want to design it with a time out clock and a motion activation.

At this point i am just shopping for parts. And tossing out ideas.

If I were doing it, an impulse sensor would detect shots fired, not merely slide movement.

Thats a decent idea. You'd have to have a way of telling the system that its full. You could do that with the followers and the slide buffer still. And which tube is fired first by the movement of the follower. And still putting the system into the slide i think its the best idea simply because it is self contained and would need no wires. A simple reset to the count or to what you want and then the recoil drops the count pershot.

Good idea.
