Need idea for hunting round in 7.62x54r for Mosin Nagant for deer season
this is what i used to take this without a scope @230+ yards...
shoots very close to the light ball surplus that i have.
Be sure and check your regs for the state you will be hunting in.
For example, in TN, you "cannot use military or other full metal jacket type of ammunition" for hunting
A 203 gr soft point is available in Brown and Silver Bear.
Winchester lists a 180gr SP at 2625 fps. Graf and Sons has it in stock. I might try that one myself this year.
That's what I use and they seem to group well from my Mosin.
curious as to why that stuff I dug out of the old Russian farmers' field won't work? :-? ;D
The brown bear has worked good for me
I've taken 3 with the silver bear 203 gr sp ammo, it also shoots 1in groups iron sights off the bench with my Russian club rifle....
I hunt a lot of pine rows so the Nagant with open sights is more than enough as you can't see squat past about 60-75 yards.
you can buy soft point ammo in 7.62x54R it about the same as a 30.06 great inexpensive hunting any thing in north anerica. sold mine might get another some day.
