It seems like a very popular option/upgrade for the sub2k is an offset (45 degree or 1 o'clock) mounted red dot (or other optic).

Other than looking cool and allowing the gun to fold properly, what's this used for?

Red dot for 50 yards or more and original sights for shorter distances?

Magnified optic for longer distances?

What's the consensus?

Typically this is better optimized on a traditional AR style rifle. I see it a lot in open division 3Gun setups. You would typically have a magnified optic on top then a red dot angled. You zero the scope for longer distances and then the angled red dot for close range like 25 yrds in.

For the Sub2K you can do this as well. Zero the irons for one distance and zero the red dot for a separate distance. Not sure if it is necessary for a 9mm to shoot past 50 yards. You can do it but not sure how useful it would be.

You can actually do this for the Midwest Industries optic mount too. The height is set due to clearing the buffer tube so the red dot will not co-witness. However you can just swing the red dot to the side and revert to irons.

Actually, the 9 MM from the carbine is pretty effective at 100 yds. Especially the 124 grain loads.

Thanks!

I'll see how proficient I can get with te irons and go from there...

Mine is a red dot offset on the left side. I just slide the rifle up a little or cant it to the right and it falls right to my right eye. Because of my horrible eyesight these days, even with glasses (my vision varies throughout the day some days), a red dot is MUCH easier to effectively use than irons for me.

On my Sub I did it to retain the folding ability. I have a very low profile mount, and I can still fold and lock it. (I just got it installed, and boresighted, yesterday, so I don't know if the mount is strong enough to hold a zero).

I have a .308 AR (DPMS GII Recon), and I have a 4.5-18x scope on it, and a 45' mounted red dot. I have the Scope for longer shots, and the red dot as a back-up/close range sight. The scope is zeroed at 100 yards (.75MOA!) and the red dot is zeroed at 50 yards.

I recently went back to just iron sights, but I now have an EOTech
mounted on the top rail as far forward as possible. This will serve
my purposes just fine, even if I can't fold it completely in 1/2.

You should zero further for longer distance engagements. I Zero my SCAR 17S for 200 yards so I know my holds for 300-400. I hve shot as far as 650yards.

Magpul590 m-lok rail 5 slot?

I just snagged a gen 2 9mm FDE sub2k and want to add a side mounted red dot so i dont lose the capability to fold it.

I was thinking about going with the Magpul590 to get a picatanny raily on the side then using a 45 degree magpul rail.

Would this be a good idea or just go straight with the 45 in the M-Lock on the side? Looking at other pictures it seems going straight to the MLock 45 and not using a spacer rail first might hit when trying to fold the rifle.

Thoughts?

I just put on a red dot sight today so I figured I'd bump this thread. I'd eventually like to try some 2/3 gun events, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money right now, so this was really just an effort to put my toe in the water.

I looked at a bunch of different pictures and threads here and came up with my budget build.

I used a:

Magpul 3 Slot M-LOK Rail Section (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PDKO760/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

UTG Single Rail/3-Slot Angle Mount w/QD Lever (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00749SY8U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Ohuhu Red/Green Reflex Sight (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YRIHYIW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

I zeroed it in and had a lot of fun shooting paper, so we'll see how it holds zero between outings to the range.

I went with the MLock 45 mount and yes, it does hit the rifle. I just added a half inch riser and mounted a TRS25 on it. Worked perfectly.

Just got started on the Sub 2000 world :)

Now that you had some time with this set up how is it working for you? Do you still have it set up like this or did you make any changes?

I’m trying to be as simple as posible. I have a Sight Mark dot which looks exactly as your Ohuhu, but I’m looking for the least amount of Pieces fit together.

Thanks!

The one thing I would change is to buy the TRS25 with the tall mount vs. shorter one I used. That would eliminate the use of the riser I added. That way you don't have to bury your cheek into the buffer tube to get a good sight picture. It has worked well for me to acquire the target quickly regardless of my old eyesight. I can't post a picture from this laptop but will try from another we have.
