Has anyone put a silencer on their shotgun? I know it's an expensive proposition, but as an application for home defense it may have merit. Some will say that in the heat of things when the SHTF, the noise won't be noticed, afterwards will be a different story.

Thanks ,

I don't find any silencer for supersonic loads worth a damn. Just sayin'.

If you have to shoot inside, at a bad guy, you'll ring, but your mind will detach from it.

Same thing with hunting. I've shot countless doves and ducks. These days, I use plugs when dove hunting, but for ducks, where the shots are only a few, I'm still without plugs. And... keep in mind I've got decent amount of hearing loss, not so much from ducks and doves, but from longterm woodshop exposure.

I've since shot with the Salvo again but had a couple of different subsonic rounds available including some hard to find 00 buck at 900 FPS. The subsonic rounds were comparatively very quiet. Definitely hearing safe. I'm going to try to shoot the subsonic loads indoors soon including some 900 FPS slugs I found to see how it sounds compared to outdoors. I'll try and get some video up before too long with comparison of the full power 00 buck to the subsonics.

The only "silencer" I've seen on a commercial level is the Salvo, I'm sure there are others. Very expensive $1.2-1.5K all said and done, and has marginal affect on sound. There are YouTube videos on the subject. Too rich for my tastes, especially when you see what others are doing with a $25.00 oil filter.

My hearing is worth the money, but that said even with the tax stamp I paid substantially less than that (under 1k including the KSG adapter). With subsonic loads the affect on sound is more than marginal. For me very much hearing safe and almost "pleasant".

Don't want to argue. I just know what I know. I have one and with subsonic loads they do work. Don't get me wrong it's still a shotgun and will never be as quiet as my G17 with an Octane 45 on it, but so far the results I've been getting are good.

The salvo 12 does work and has a decibel reduction far exceeding 2 decibels. Is it worth it for the price? Depends. Is it as quiet as subsonic pistol ammo? Negative. With subsonic loads, it is roughly like HV 22 or 9mm supersonic loads suppressed. With full power loads it is a lot more like a rifle suppressor. Hearing safe but definitely not quiet. For me, it is absolutely worth it for being able to shoot without hearing protection.
