I wanted to share my experience with my su16 as I was very impressed with it.
The configuration was the ar stock kit with nockoff aim point red dot sight.
I had a chance to participate in a tactical carbine course over 2 days. Day 1 I shot approx 900+ rounds where I had 1 double feed and 3 stove pipes near the end of the day. Day 2 I did about 500+ rounds with only one stove pipe.
I really got use to the mag release and used only the beowulf mags which with plastic on plastic I had to really pull the mag out with a purpose. The safety was a real pain to engage quickly after but I got the hang of it and will be making a mod for it so the safety is easier to engage and disengage. Will also test an at ambi safety to see if it works.
The barrel and gas tube gets really hot and burnt the fingers a couple times if not careful how I held the foregrip properly but it also cools off reasonably fast.
One of the tasks on the course was to shoot 5 rounds each at three targets with two reloads. My end of day run was just at 10 seconds. And practice time of 5 rounds into one target was at 0.81 seconds. So this gun can really cycle well.
I am much much happier with this then my rfb which has always been plagued with issues and failure to load.
The at buttstock had some sharp edges which when transitioning to pistol and it hangs on my single point sling can wear down your forearm over a day. So I will be looking for a replacement for it as well.
The single point along I used was a magpul ms3 with a utg low profile picatinni mount with quick detach clip. I have it sit just infront of the iron sight and behind the red dot. I think a sling with a different Connie toe to use on the ar stock might be better but I really like this sling.
I got some great videos with my gopro clone I had mounted on the front rail but will need to make some modifications if I want to use this again in matches.
I did try some imi lar mags and found them in my gun to be unreliable. Maybe if the magpul auto level follower was installed it might work better. However the metal lar mags with auto leveled follower and beowulf mags worked great and no really issues.

Cleaning the su16 is simple and I finally figured out the trick to get the bolt and tube back into the receiver as I had many problems with it as I was trying to put it in while gun was horizontal. No I put it in with barrel straight down and it slides in with no effort.

I really appreciated this gun as many ar on the course had several issues which I did not experience with mine. Kel tec did a great job on this rifle and for the price is an excellent deal.

I think keeping the barrel vertical is coincidental to the reassembly. The real requirement is to have several things lined up. In particular, the bolt must be kept back in the carrier to get the whole thing inserted, but then moved forward so that the cam pin can clear the rails. In the same time, the recoil spring tube tab must be kept vertical. And the dust cover has to be forward. And finally, don't forget to insert the charging handle. Other than juggling all these things, it's a piece of cake :)
