Just picked up my new P3AT yesterday and got to shoot it yesterday and this morning. I shot a total of 150 rounds of magtec ammo. I would say I had rougly 10-15 fail-to-feeds out of the 150 rounds. I'm very cognizant of the "limp wristing" issue so I began holding it tightly with both hands and my left pointer finger around the front of the trigger guard. Moving to that grip seemed to help but I still got a few more fail to feeds.

I had no fail-to-extracts. All the issues were with the round getting jammed between the magaizine and the barrel in a 45 degree angle upward.

So my question is should I put another 100 or so rounds through it or is 150 enough for a break-in period? If it is still failing to feed after the next 100 rounds should I send it to the factory for warranty service?

All that being said, this gun is an amazing piece of engineering. Just incredibly small and light. It's just amazing that you can get seven rounds into that small a package. Very impressive gun, particularly for the price.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I did strip it down and cleand and oil it today. But can you tell me specifically how to polish the feed ramp. Excuse my ignorance but what part is the feed ramp? Is that the top of the magazine?

When the gun is new just a little bit of dirt can affect feeding. It should be cleaned very 25 - 50 rounds  at first. As the gun smooths up through usage you can clean it less often.

The F&B (fluff and buff) is simply a way to speed up the smoothing of the feed area by polishing it manually rather than waiting for the bullets to do it during shooting.

Keeping it well lubed also helps a lot as you could imagine.

I think I'll try some of the suggestions on the F&B page but I'm no gunsmith so I may just feel more comfortable letting the Kel-Tec folks do the work under warranty. But I'll do a little polishing by hand and a good cleaning and try another 100 rounds. If I still have problems with it I'll send it to the factory.

Mike... Glad to have you here.

I would consider the fluff and buff, good clean and lube.

And don't worry about "but I'm no gunsmith ".  Neither am I, but since finding this board and DOING the fluff and buff, I have the ability to completely strip down and then reassemble just about all of the guns I have.  It is not that hard after the first time, and it is a great way to get to know your gun.

A lot of these types of problems will fix themselves during break-in (150 -? 250 rounds)
If not the mods listed are not very invasive. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Good point. I would certainly try a couple of different rounds.
