I had an opportunity to play with a Salvo suppressor on my KSG and took some video back to back with and without the Salvo. There's text at the end of the video where I discuss my experience, but basically here are my thoughts.

It is difficult in the video to hear the difference between with and without, but it is a bigger difference to the shooter's ear than in the video. It doesn't make it quiet, but it does soften it a fair amount. It is probably right on the edge of hearing safe, but I did shoot some without ear pro and it didn't bother me at all. It also softens the kick of the gun itself. A bit less muzzle rise and makes it more of a push and a softer push.

I'm going to get to play with the Salvo some more soon. Next time out I will do some pattern testing of various loads with and without to see how the Salvo affects it.

Cool stuff. What were the loads shot? Did you try low velocity loads, 1000 fps or less??
I only had some 9 pellet 00 buck at 1325 FPS available to me.

Thanks for sharing. Looks heavy.
Well, it's not light, but on the KSG you really don't notice it. With the bullpup design the gun still felt really balanced. I also got a chance to run the Salvo on my 870 Wingmaster with 18.5 barrel and it felt noticeably heavier on that gun. I'd hate to run it out on the end of a 28" or 30" barrel like I've seen in videos of guys shooting clays.

just saw a post that salvo suppressors on sale for $765. Any other deals out there or should I jump on that?

i couldnt imagine using a KSG indoors for HD w/out a can. I fired it once outside with no earpro and it was very painful!

I bought my KSG for home defense primarily due to its compact size. For me, adding the salvo would pretty much negate the size advantage and make the KSG just another shotgun.

I don't have silencer for any of my guns, so (heaven forbid) if I had to use any of them indoors there's going to be a lot of noise.

Some might spin that as a positive - to have a shorter non-classIII shotgun to which you could add the Salvo and have a quieter gun in a length you're used to. If I ran my Salvo in the 6" configuration, total length on my KSG would be about 3" shorter than my go-to 870 with Magpul stock and 18.5" barrel. Since posting the video in my original post I've found a maker of sub-sonic 00 buckshot loads that are, for a shotgun, very quiet. I haven't tried these loads in a 6" Salvo but intend to at some point.

Thanks, post here when you do, I'd be interested. Yes, that would be the appeal of having a compact package to be suppressed and not be any longer than a normal unsupressed shotgun. albeit expensive!

I'm finally providing a follow-up on this. I obtained a 6 inch rod kit for my Salvo months ago, but just now got time to disassemble and clean the Salvo and convert to 6 inch form. I found a source for 12 pellet subsonic 00 buck shot which is very quiet in the 12 inch can so I was interested to see what it sounded like in the 6 inch version. I shot around 40 rounds last week and, while not as "soft" sounding as when used with the 12" can, the 6" can still made a significant difference in terms of sound and recoil reduction. I really like the length as the overall package is shorter than my trusty 18.5" home defense Wingmaster.
