I went to the range to get some practice with my pf9. I bought some herters ammo from cabelas to try out. I had so many fte that I got frustrated and left. The last time I went to the range I used federal ammo and I started having fte but realized extractor screw was loose so I thought that would solve the problem. Could this be ammo related or do I need a new extractor and spring?

I have 2 of them and no problem with either fte's or otherwise. Perhaps, you are "limp wristing" and that can be the problem. They do require a good tight grip and it is common to get fte's if not held solidly.

Pull the slide and slide a loaded cartridge under the extractor. Hold the slide level and shake GENTLY. It should hold the round. Test several brands. I had the same problem with one ammo. It would fall out, the others would hold. If the round falls out, order a new extractor, or first remove the old one, clean the channel and try it. Some people have filed a SMALL amount off the part of the extractor that faces the channel. (not the claw) Also drop a round in the chamber. It should fall out easily. Of course before anything, make sure the frankenscrew is tight.

YES, steel cased ammo, loose extractor screw...do it every time! Make sure the screw is tight, get some quality brass ammo, try it again, see how it goes. If the problem persists, search FTEx, (failure to extract), go from there.

It was brass cased ammo but was very cheap. I could have been limp wristing I suppose cause it seems for some reason I felt more recoil. Ive put over 400 rounds thru my pf9 and this was by far the most problems I have had with it. The extractor screw was tight this time so I may just get the new kit since it is fairly cheap. Thanks for your replies.

frankpf9, it doesn't hurt to change out the extractor and spring, (probably will solve your problem). Limp wristing won't cause FTEx, it'll cause other things though. Call Keltec, they might send you an extractor 'kit' under warranty although they aren't being so 'free' with parts anymore, people abused the crap out of it. Fortunately, your extractor screw is/was already loose. Some of the newer PF9s are a real *itch to remove even heated up quite a bit.
