My buddy was asking about my trigger, so I sent him a pics of mine (Gen2 G17 model). He sent me a pic of his and it looks completely different (Gen2 MP9 model). Is that normal?

Yep, KT did a "model" change (for lack of better words) they came up with a new wider trigger guard and trigger to go with it. They first showed me the difference last September.

I thought mine was a defect until I read about the newest model changes thread on here. Mine looks the same as the photo of your friends sub. The trigger pull would be much better if it didn't drag slightly against the trigger guard. I have dry fired it holding the guard out slightly and the trigger pull is quite decent and smooth when it is not contacting the guard. However, it does give it somewhat of a two stage feel when it does contact it, lol. I have no issues with the trigger returning back to the fire position. I'm tempted to sand mine down a bit so it just clears the guard. Any reason why I shouldn't? Anyone do this with the newest batch yet? I live in Canada so I can't exactly send it in...

It is probably a little out of spec.
I would just sand the bottom of the trigger until it doesn't rub the guard.
Or you could just heat up the trigger guard with a hair dryer and poke a broomstick in there to open it up a little.

My G2 pinches my finger against the trigger guard. I bought it in Oct.2015BHL (before Hillary lost) I hope the curved MCarbo is better
