Yep! It was cheap American Eagle ammo. I believe it was an overcharge, rather than a squib . . . based on the observed bullet strike of the round previous to the boomer. Fortunately, no one was injured. Kel-Tec, to whom we sent the pistol and the box flap from the ammo, replaced the pistol under warranty!
It may not be obvious in this picture, but the ruptured barrel is clear and the spent casing was not blown out, nor ejected. My brave wife, put down the P-3AT and picked up a 1911 for the rest of the day's shooting.
