I had the best deer hunt of my life back in 1987. Was hunting with my dad and had just re-taken up the sport after having no luck hunting deer as a teenager.
Dad had a doe only tag and I had an either sex tag. Dad had scouted the area and had come across a big BIG whitetail deer. For weeks all he would say was it was BIG. No description till the week of the hunt. Then all he would tell me was it looked like a brush pile on his head  .

You'll be able to view this story in whole on the Outdoor Channel program ,Bass Pro Shops King of Bucks sometime in Sept (I'll post up the exact date as soon as the producer tells me,should be 1st or 2nd week of Sept ??? )

More later,stay tuned...

What a deer. For Brennan and I who are rookie hunters, we think it's very cool to know one of the guys who landed a King of Bucks. Can't wait to see the program. Be sure to get us the details.

Re: Deer hunt of a lifetime. . . Update !

Just got to watch the DVD of the upcoming show on Bass Pro Shops King Of Bucks. My story will be in show # 9 of the year (show 7 has already aired so in the next week or 2...)
They did an awesome job of getting the story right. In the past the written story always seem to fall short of the real story. I'm very proud of the way this is presented and on watching you will see why ;) , the story has a lot to do with my dad  [smiley=engel017.gif] RIP

The show schedule on the Outdoor Channel is, Wed at 3PM Eastern / Thurs at 7 AM ET and Sunday at 12:30 PM ET...
http://www.outdoorchannel.com/Shows/KingOfBucks.aspx

Look for show # 9 with Jerry Martin's Ks Buck / the Waters Kansas Buck (mine) and Grant Woods .

Joe- I caught it after lunch today.

Very moving tribute to the relationship between father and son. If I was an emotional guy I might have claimed to have gotten dust in my eyes. Congratulations!

And the deer was nice BTW. ;)

I thought the same thing - GREAT Father/son story of sharing, teaching, growth - etc.

Also - one heckuva' deer story - and great filming/production work by those that did it!
I can see 1st place and record holder in KS but 13th best-ever on the show/books? Pretty incredible.

p.s. I kinda' thought you'd be uglier than that and was thinking "great make-up artist" lol... but my girlfriend was over during her lunch hour and watched it with me - she ASSURED me you were the second-best looking guy on the ENTIRE show today!!!
(I'll have to take her word for it, I have no experience in "judging" male beauty, lol)

I hope they gave you a few free DVD's and or whatever'da'heck the recording medium they used - get as many copies as they will give you (and beg for more) - ESPECIALLY if you can get a hold of ANY of the "unedited" versions (great RECORDED family history to add to your "stuff" for your family in the future)

Wrong time and place to go into it, but there have been a few "recordings" of one friend or family thing or another in my life that ended up being the ONLY "video" of people that are now gone - being able to give their survivor copies of "the only video" has meant the world to them....
