Deep pit/hole in slide?

821 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jimwiggs
I just lightly fluffed and buffed a new P3AT and now notice what looks like a small hole on the underside of the slide. I am concerned that even a small hole could allow cartridge gases to collect, reducing pressure, or that dirt can collect and eventually corrode the slide from inside out. I am not certain how to attach a photo, or I would send one along. Should I be concerned about this hole? Thanks in advance for the help.

jl2, there are many posts about this issue, and many have pictures. it is quite normal

forget about it, it does not exist, and you can not see the hole if the slide is ON the gun.

the BG will never know.

;D
that hole is actually a vent/drain for the retaining cylinder of the extractor. You don't want excessive oil or cleaning fluid to collect under the extractor or you my get spotanious combustion

jl2... Glad to have you here.

I would consider the FULL fluff and buff, good clean and lube, and close inspection of the guide rod hole.

Regading the hole under the slide:

If it is the same location indicated by the red square on my two slides, it is simply an over bore on the extractor hole.

My camera does not get up close very well, so when I saw the same thing in my slides I posted the above pics and expressed the same concerns you had.

Here is a link to a thread that has a good photo of what I am talking about:

Don't worry about it!.... FLUFF and BUFF

Clean Lube  Repeat.... Clean Lube Repeat

EDIT TO ADD:.. at the top left of each board page is a wonderful google custom search feature.

This is a very serious problem and calls for the rapid application of some Packer's Indispensable Slide Soother. It's made FRESH from special Slide Hardening Ingredients Today:

Urea
Rhodium
Silicon
Chlorine
Razor rash
Emu spit
Widow's peak
Excrementum
Dilithium crystals

Just rub it on your slide, blow on it, then leave it outside in the sun for a day. The little hole will disappear like magic!
